Blah
I got my room finished. Yay me! Got most of my books put away. Seems like even though most of the house has been unpacked for awhile, I will still find something that needs a place. Things are slowly coming together. I am watching a show...Vegas I think...and Tom Selleck is guest starring on it, or maybe he's a newer character...I don't watch it enough to know...anyway...MAN he really looks like Jim. Same dimples. Same goatee.
Now I have to jump in the shower. Get that part of my day over.

August 7, 2008
SO this is the plan for today. I am going to take full and complete advantage of the lack of sun and the fact that it isn't extremely hot AND finish unpacking my room! I am also going to take a shower and clean my house. I may even read a little.
This summer has kind of been a wash. I will be glad when it is over and it is fall. My most favorite and most active season. Full of hikes and nature. This beach traffic is killing me! The girls and I did enjoy a nice day at the beach on Monday. Pathetic that we drive OUT of our beach town to go to a semi-private beach that out-of-staters and tourists either don't know about or don't bother to hit. It actually works out well because all the traffic is headed into town when we're leaving it and they are all headed out while we're headed back. We do have a private beach right where we are, and it is only open to people that live right where we do. You have to live in this little area of suburbia to gain access to the beach but I have been feeling less than social. Kind of hard to live a life of anonymity once the neighbors start getting to know you. Not sure why I am feeling like this lately, but I just do. No rat races to participate in, no keeping up with the Joneses. Just kind of settling into our own groove in the new house before we add in the desperate housewives effect. I really feel like we've moved into the uber-social joiner neighborhood. They have an annual 4th of July parade. Mind you, this isn't for the town, just our little housing development. A neighborhood yard sale once a year, a neighborhood day, with a group picnic down at the beach. It is kind of like a trailer park with no trailers. Well let me be their tornado!
I'm just in a funk right now. A bitchy anti-social funk. I don't want to make friends. I don't want to get together. I don't want your darn brownies. I don't want to join join join! I would name the neighborhood and I think I may have in a previous post but I am too lazy to look, but the 'hood even has its own website and all I need is for them to find out I blog! I feel like I am the lady that moves into Stepford. This hood has a secret. It all seems a little too incestuous to me.

I can't believe it is actually Monday already. What a pain. I spent my day off yesterday with Mitch picking up the girls in Maine and bringing them home. We didn't get back last night till 9:30-10 PM. I promptly went to bed. I have had a yucky headache. It is going on day 2. It was beautiful and sunny here yesterday, but I went to where it was pouring rain. :( It is nice here today, so hopefully I will make the best of it. The girls are back so now I will actually have someone to go to the beach with. They have been gone for a whole month. I think that was the longest I have ever been away from them in the last 18 years.

July 31, 2008
It is like totally raining outside. July is almost over. I really don't ever like August. Not sure why. A combination of knowing summer is almost over and another winter is approaching and the incredibly hot and muggy air getting me grumpy probably. My anxiety typically is at its high in August. However, I LOVE fall. It is my favorite season. Especially around here. As you may recall, we were still going to the beach in November. I love fall because of the cool night time air for sleeping and because I can wear jeans again! And all my clothes that I haven't been able to wear all summer.
Let's see if there is anything to blog about...I have to go grocery and household shopping today. It is pouring outside. This will at least cancel our outside use water ban, not that I noticed anyone obeying said water ban. Do the police really drive around town to see whose water sprinklers are coming on at 2 AM?
Shark WEEK! Love love love it. I wait all year for it. Now it is almost over.
So this AM, I guess I will drop Zach off, run to the post office, enjoy absolutely NO beach traffic (thank you rain), and try to get my grocery shopping done before it gets busier.
This is officially the most boring post ever, I think.

My birthday was very nice. Mitch and I had another enjoyable dining experience at DiMillo's. He bought me 2 dozen roses. A dock for my iPod that goes in the car. Charges it and also plays my tunes thru the radio. I also got a digital photo key chain. AND he bought me my favorite gift of all...the new FliP video camera! In white and pink of course. That was the tricky part. Around here, he could find just about any color but the pink one, and if they had the store model, it wasn't in stock and they all said it had to be special ordered. Finally, he did find one in stock after 3 or 4 tries. It holds 60 mins of video before you have to download it, but with a "flip" of a switch, the side opens up to reveal a USB that plugs right into your laptop. Downloads movies to iMovie and/or uploads them to youtube if you so wish.
Now I am just waiting for the final gift of my birthday. My new puggle. He will look a little something like this:

Still Exhausted
So much for doing much of anything yesterday! Mitch and I took a three hour nap. We ran to Walmart, bought a few things, cooked supper, ate around 9PM and both went back to bed and both of us quickly fell back to sleep. Mitch has an excuse for being exhausted. Me? Same old stuff around here. I have no explanation.
Work should be fun today. We are having our employee recognition "fun day" bbq today.

July 24th, 2008
I have today off. I am going to jump in the shower, run or do the quick errands that I have to and then enjoy the day off with Mitch. Not sure what we'll do today. It was predicted to be heavy rain all day and right now, it is hazy/sunny and extremely hot and humid. So humid in fact, the air feels heavy and wet. Ick. Probably a mall day or something, just to stay in some air conditioning.
Sunday night/Monday day, Mitch is taking me to Portland for my birthday. We'll hopefully have a nice dinner at DiMillo's and recreate one of our favorite dates. Monday will be shopping in Freeport I hope and then home again so I can work Tuesday. :(

Yummy Goodness
Soooo work today was so much better! That was a relief! I don't think I could have taken one more day of how things were like last week. I am exhausted today, though. It is all I can do to stay awake right now. But I have to. Mitch is working late and can't pick up Zach after football practice tonight and Zach needs to be picked up at 7ish PM. It is only 5:35 PM and I am so ready for bed.
I am eating my supper alone. Yummy Boston Market, so that makes up for being alone and I'm drinking a yummy Barq's root beer. Of course, I am not alone when I am with my Sierra doggie.
At the Jamestown Library today they were having a used book sale. I hit pay dirt! AND they accepted checks. I was afraid it would be a cash only deal and since I pay for everything with debit or credit cards I had no cash. Then the librarian said they would take a check and I just happened to be the one carrying the checkbook today!
The jeep has a flat today. A nail sticking out. I was taking the suburban anyway because that is what I drive on Tuesdays so really no big deal. Mitch said he'll change the tire when he gets home from work tonight. Thank goodness for floodlights!

Dog Dayz
She is doing so well not getting on my new couch and loveseat. Of course it is much cooler on the wood floors in front of the fan!
My Precious
I am mostly just riled up because of the reader's online comments to an article last week in the BDN. So much ignorance. Too angry to do the breed much good by posting my own comments.
Sierra Sleeping
All this researching and searching today for a new puppy has made me love my baby even more (like that was possible!) SOOOO many irresponsible and ignorant backyard breeders out there. Rescues and shelters aren't a whole lot better. The Bangor Humane Society where I got my Sierra is above and beyond what a "shelter" should be...and even there I paid almost $300 for her, BUT she came spayed by their in-house vet.
AND YOU ignorant gang member breeders trying to claim lineage. If you're so smart, maybe you can try to work on your English! As an English teacher, I reserve the right to say so! This breed has enough of a burden to carry without you promoting dog fighting.
What is ironic is that Sierra would fight to the death for me, yet I am the one that occasionally needs the muzzle!

Craziness
Today is just a plain old crappy day. Trying to come up with lesson plans for the next few weeks and not having any luck. The challenge is coming up with an idea that will hold the attention of a variety of levels of attentiveness, while including adjustments for a variety of levels of ability. The program is for people with developmental disabilities and because this day program is still relatively new, we're dealing with a lot of behaviors (staff included), scheduling conflicts, communication breakdowns, all the whilst lesson planning and performing job duties AND having to keep a positive attitude while doing so. I'm struggling with the positive attitude part. Routines are as important to me as they are to the individuals we support and for the last month we haven't really had a routine. My schedule has changed almost weekly. Mostly minor adjustments but enough to throw me for a loop. Normally, I love a challenge, even in the midst of routinelessness, but we also moved in the last month, so there is a lack of routine when I get home, too. My girls are in Maine and will be there until the first weekend of August. Zach has been busy with his friends ALL the time. Don't even get me started on Mitch's pain in the a** schedule lately.
I desperately need a vacation BUT I have been hesitant to take one with the day program just barely underway. I am certainly not the only one feeling the strain at work and more than likely, my strain is less than what it is for some of the staff, some of whom have worked for over 20 years. We have open shifts, not enough bodies to cover most of them (the open ones), in house cat fighting, and some staff are just being down right nasty.
Allison's birthday is tomorrow, so Happy Birthday to her.
I have also been looking at getting another dog. A boy puppy for Sierra. I have narrowed the search down to:
1. another pitbull (since Sierra loves boy dogs this should be no trouble)
2. a teacup Yorkie (they are sooooo darn adorable) and b/c the house is smaller, this would make some sense
3. a Golden Retriever (I owned one when the girls were little and am only hesitant because goldens in my experience seem to have an extended chewing phase)
I also love American Bull dogs but they are pricey, as are the Yorkies. I have also considered another shelter dog, but my main purpose of getting another dog is so the dogs ages are staggered. A lot of them are already Sierra's age. I'm not crazy about the puppy housebreaking phase but Sierra is a very well trained, well behaved dog and my hope is that she will help with this by modeling good behavior. And if I want a baby, I want the dog training part to be done with because of the lack of adequate training time after a baby. Ideally, I would want the puppy to reach a year or so old before the baby process. But really, when has my life ever gone according to as planned??? Ummm, never.
My wheels have been turning about a 1000 miles per minute. Really we have everything we need. The vicious cycle of getting everything is there is always something else. One more thing to make me really happy. A new flat tv. A new dog. A new car. A new baby.
What I really want and really need is a mediation day to NOT think about any of this stuff. Not think about work. Not think about stuff I want. Not think about schedules. Just me and God.

I'm Feeling...Hot Hot Hot
Actually for the first time in days...weeks...I feel comfortable. The humidity is still there, but the temp has dropped a little. Zach and I are watching King Kong. We were going to go to the drive in, but time got away from us today. We are just now finishing supper. He and his friend Josh played video games/computer games, rode bikes and skateboarded for most of the afternoon. Earlier in the morning, Zach and I went shopping. I bought comforters for the girls room. Some more golf skirts. Two movies for Zach. Some new shorts. A cute little brown sundress on clearance. We went with the intention of buying school supplies. Walmart was having a good sale and last year we waited until the last minute and I ended up paying 5x's as much...but I forgot my original plan.
I seriously have to get my bedroom unpacked. It has been so stinking hot and work has been kinda stressful so I have not wanted to do it. Maybe tomorrow.

Sierra is doing fairly well staying off the new couch and loveseat. I still let her sleep in the recliner and she has been using her dog bed more and being a good sport about it. I am sure when we're not in residence, she is on the couch, but I was smart enough to get the furniture in a shade as close to her color as possible. Cardis Furniture calls it "Cocoa"...to me it is more "coffee-light on the cream." Another reason we (I) decided on this color is because coffee sloshes will blend in well too!
I have the whole dang day off! It is certainly a beach day, but there is a good chance I will just enjoy the sun from my backyard. Zach got one of those slip and slides that has a skimmer board a few months ago. You ride down the slide on the board doing tricks. Well, it doubles as a sun tanning mat for me. It holds just enough water to keep you cool in the sun, but not enough to submerge your skin from the sun. Plus I feel more comfortable tanning, let's just say, less dressed, in the backyard than at the beach. Of course, this will be the day the neighbors decide to be neighborly and bring over brownies or something!

Finally!!
I am back online! Took longer than expected but we had a lot of stuff to do around here getting settled into our new home, and also with work for the both of us, and before we knew it, like two weeks flew right by!
I hate not being online. It feels like I am disconnected from everyone and everything. I am going to be a new auntie! My sister is pregnant (again) with my future nephew! Gracie will now be a big sister! I can't believe she will be three this winter!
My girls are enjoying a few weeks in Maine visiting family and friends. They will be excited to know that cable and internet will be here waiting for them. They are having way too much fun for me to succumb to my loneliness and go and pick them up early. Hayley turned 17 yesterday. Kayla will be 19 in February. Time to stretch the umbilical cord a little, I guess. Cut it? NEVER!!!
Zach's Aunt Christy is pregnant too, but with a girl, due about the same time. Her baby shower was this weekend and unfortnately, I could not attend. It is an 8-hour drive just one way. Jen was kind enough to send pics of the shower. One of the happiest times of my life was when Christy and Mike's mother, and me and Mike were waiting for Zachary to make his appearance.
Speaking of Zachie, he is spending just about every day at the beach with his friends, or riding his bike around town. There are a ton of things to do around here in the summer, festivals, surf competitions, concerts, etc., and he is having the time of his life. To be 14 again, with nothing but summer on your hands! He does have football practice every Tuesday and Thursday night. I can't believe he is playing high school football! I can't believe he is in high school! He was such an adorable baby and little boy, but I have to say, he is turning into a very handsome boy-man. His voice is deepening and he shaves his little mustache...the peach fuzz on the corners seems to be a bit darker than the rest of it and it makes his lip look dirty, so I make him shave it. But he still has a few minutes every day to cuddle. I know he does this for my benefit.

Yucka
It is going to be beautiful today. Less humid and very sunny. A perfect beach day. Can I enjoy the beach day? Noooooooo! I can not. Why? Because I have a damn staff meeting on my day off no less, that will be 11:30 until 2:30. WTF??? We had one just like this two weeks ago, on my day off, on another gorgeous beach day!
So, I am leaving Hope and Brian's at 8 AM. Running home to take a shower and get ready for said meeting. Dropping Hayley off at new house with cleaning and organizing supplies. She will stay there until my return. I have instructed her to wash all the walls in the house and light my Yankee candles. When I get there this afternoon, it is my hope that it feels like home. Ironically, when Mitch and I were looking at the house a few months ago, it felt more like home than where we are right now, and our stuff wasn't even in it yet! I will bring Sierra to the new house today after my meeting to see how she likes her new backyard.
I got a wonderful compliment from the older lady across the street. She was sad to see us moving and she said, "You know, when I first heard you were moving into the neighborhood with a dog, I was really worried, but until recently when I saw your daughter laying in the sun on the deck with the dog asleep next to her, I forgot you even had a dog!!! If you ever need references regarding her please let me know." That is right. My precious should be dog of the year! A pitbull even! I won't say anything about another neighbor's ugly little thing that actually got put outside at 4 AM one morning barking its head off. At 4 AM, let's just say, I was ready to go bite that dog myself. AND its owner!
Speaking of my sweet Sierra...she will be 6 years old in March! :( The middle-aged years have arrived. We should get at the very least another 6 years together, probably another 8 or 9, if we keep up proper care. I can't tell you how much I am dreading the day that she is gone. Is it morbid to think like this? Probably, but It hasn't been that long since we lost Kodi. 3 years in January. Sierra is so very much my dog, though. My little shadow. My very best friend. I love that she prefers me above all else. Usually dogs prefer the man of the house simply because they like deep voices best. Not Sierra girl! She loves my voice.
On to different, happier news...Teresa is having a baby!!! I am so excited for her! I will have some news when I get ready to share. I am still not sure who is reading this thing. Friends and strangers are certainly most welcome. It is to the few that read this just to basically find stuff out that is none of their business. You know, gossipy kind of people. Why blog, you may question. Well, I have been doing this since 2004. You will notice I don't blog like I used to and I probably never will again. But since moving, blogging has been an easier way to keep friends and loved ones posted on our life. I have thought about going private, but really, I enjoy fellow bloggers who happen to stumble across mine. I also love to read blogs that I have stumbled across.
Current Music: Jack Johnson's Curious George Soundtrack
Current Mood: ready to have the dang meeting over with so I can tan, get to work on the new house AND possibly head to the beach for a brief swim. I will probably go to the beach, then tan, and THEN spend the rest of the evening working at the new house.

Moving
I was going thru some old pics from 2002-2003...some great ones of Allison and me. We had such a great time that year. My sister's wedding, our trip to CT, Old Orchard fun, every Friday night at Mulligan's for karaoke and drinks. Jenkin's beach. Our annual 4th of July Boston trip.
So we're moving into our new house on Sunday. All week we're taking loads over. I was kinda stressed about it, but now that it is actually happening, I am more excited than stressed. I thought we'd be able to enjoy our last month in the house we're in, but instead I have spent the entire month stressing about the move, and when to pack, and what new furniture we need and blah, blah, blah. Now that it is happening, I have concrete things to do to ward off stress and anxiety.
The new house is smaller, but has a private beach. Comes with a sailboat and a dinghy. Hopefully we'll have some kayaks (like at least 4) before too long. I want a three person jet ski for next summer. I wish Eric and Allison would move here. Maybe they can visit soon. There is a brand new Hampton Inn in town, which Eric gets considerable discounts on. We have the futon for guests. And a tent in the back yard. Next year we will have the camper.
The new day program starts officially on Monday. My first day there will be Tuesday. This is my last overnight in Newport with Brian and Hope. :( I will be back to visit frequently.
I am hoping the Fios internet/cable/phone will be turned on before next weekend. If it isn't, I won't be blogging probably until it is, unless one of our new neighbors is wireless and isn't using password protection. Soooo, Happy Birthday Eric if I am not online on the 28th.

Weird Day
Today is typically my day off. It still is but I have a staff meeting for our new day program. The meeting is supposed to be 11-2. YUCK! I will have time to take a quick shower, get ready and MAYBE be able to sit outside for a few minutes. I am hoping that we get out a bit early so I can get some sun. Soooo anyway, everything I usually get done during the day will have to be done this evening like grocery shopping.
Tomorrow and Friday are regular 8-3 workdays.
That is it for excitement in this neck of the world.

Heat Wave
We are in the middle of this summer's first heat wave. It is 8:30 AM and is already 87.5 degrees in the shade. We spent the last two days at the beach and on the deck in the SUN...my knees are a little burnt as are the tops of my shoulders. I think it is supposed to be cooler starting tomorrow, with temps back in the 80's where they belong. It was 97 in Providence yesterday and it is supposed to break that record today. Anyway, I am loving it. You won't hear me complain about a heat wave in early June. Traffic is ridiculous with about 500,000 people trying to get into our small town on a MONDAY. Of all the beaches in Rhode Island, our town boasts owning 5 and of those 5, ALL of them are the top 5 beaches in the state, with Scarborough being in the number one spot. I literally live a ten minute drive from work and it can take almost 35 minutes to get there if it is hot and sunny, with the pain in the ass beach traffic. The neighborhood we live in is residential with no parking on the street to deter beach traffic, so it seems like all is well in our idyllic little spot of heaven, and then we turn the corner onto 108 and BOOM! It is a shock every time.
I am sitting out on the balcony right now, watching the Block Island Ferry head out to Block Island of course. Blogging away. Drinking my latte. Mitch's lattes are even better than Ampersand's now and he makes me one most mornings and if I am already at work, he delivers one to me. He is perfect. Anything I want, I get it. He tells me he loves me a million times a day. And shows he loves me in a million different ways. I am the luckiest woman on the planet I think.
I had a marvelous two days off. I don't have to be into work until 1 PM today. Usually I have so much to do around the house to get caught up on things because I have been working so much, I don't really enjoy my time off. These two days off were excellent. I didn't clean anything. I am feeling very well-rested and the pained look seems to be off my face. I have a staff meeting today at 1 and another long meeting tomorrow (my day off) 11-1. The look might find its way back!!!
This will be a relatively easy normal week at work, providing I don't pick up any extra shifts. I worked two extra last week and it took me two days to recover.

Memorial Weekend Wrap-Up
The weather was spectacular on Sunday. I am glad that was the day the kids and I decided to spend at the beach. Monday proved a lot breezier and chillier than the 80 degrees they had predicted. It was a nice time. Burgers on the grill. Potato salad. Etc. Mitch and I took a nice drive.
I have been searching online for stuff I want to do this summer and fall. Hit the our zoo in Providence. The aquarium in Mystic. Some area beaches I've been doing some investigating. Ride on some of our fantastic bike trails. Newport Folk Festival. Do some ghost hunting. Rhode Island is quite haunted much to my delight. Go to Block Island. Take a sunset cruise. Dance at least one Thursday at the Towers in town. They have dancing there with a live band every Thursday night. Take the girls especially to Salem. Spend the day in New York CIty again soon. I want to find Balto in Central Park. Visit DC again. Take in some Providence sights...like the famed WaterFire, and some museums. Also I want to spend some time at the library. SO I get to figure out how I am going to fit that all in with work, trips to Maine, and laying in the sun!
Mitch and I are doing a book study together. It is fun. Plus we are finding out even more about each other than we might not even have thought about discussing before.

Lots of Stuff
Yesterday was Zachary's 14th birthday. Sad for me. Mitch and his sisters and I took him shopping and out to dinner at TGI Fridays where the waiter promised to embarrass him sufficiently with some kind of birthday song. Zach got a new baseball glove and a new bike to replace his new bike he got last year for his birthday that was stolen in less than 3 weeks after his birthday. We're in a much nicer neighborhood now, so I think we'll have better luck. He always has lobster on his birthday, but really only he and I like it, so we chose a family dinner out and tomorrow I will pick up some lobster and make it here. Mitch and the girls will get something else though equally nice.
Mother's Day was nice. I got flowers and a lovely picture signed by the artist (my daughter). She will be majoring in Art/Photography next year...where, we don't know yet...somewhere in Florida, California or Texas. I also dined at Boston Market. YUM...that is all I have to say about that!
I have a 3 hour staff meeting today. Noon to 3. Then off to Hope and Brian's for the night. I got my nails done yesterday and Mitch got his haircut. We are looking at new cars...something Chrysler I think, because if you buy, they are setting your gas prices at $2.99 and paying the difference. I don't think I've owned anything Chrysler, but Mitch's dad traded the Volvo for a Pacifica and loves it. I have to admit, it is a VERY nice ride on the inside. We did see a Jaguar that I love love love. But really we just need something better on gas than the Suburban.
Okay...I have to get in the shower if I want to go tanning before the meeting.

May 6, 2008
I have tomorrow off. I work 14 hours on Thursday however. We are running even more short-staffed then usual. BUT the overtime will continue to be nice. I have made like 3 x's my salary last year in just 4 months.
I am still reading A Prayer for Owen Meany but I am also reading Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer so Owen Meany is taking me longer than expected.
