Irene
The rain is just starting a bit. The storm itself is still in Virginia area so we have some time yet. Our town has a mandatory evacuation in effect tomorrow in ocean front property...we literally are like one house over from the evacuation zone. Big worries are power outages and flooding!!! The Weather Channel guy has been here in Narragansett, RI all day.
Tomorrow should be interesting to say the least!

Weird Dreams
The hurricane must be on my brain because it's spawning some weird dreams. Certainly entertaining but weird. I'm not worried about the storm. Not even stocking up on water because our grill has a burner and we'll just boil it if we have to. I'm not stocking my fridge or freezer because of the real threat of losing our power, and I'm not about to lose a whole fridge full of food! So it'll be mostly snack foods, canned veggies, meal replacement bars, etc for Sunday if we really do get nailed. Bella has formula, cans of food, etc, plus she eats what we eat, so I'm not worried about her starving.
I'm most worried about losing power and being bored to tears for the day/evening. I'm going into to work at 7 tomorrow night and staying till 3 the next day. Scott is coming in at 9 Sunday morning so if I have to go home to get the kids, I can. We're right on the water and I guess there's potential for flooding, but we're midway up a hill, so I guess I'm not worried. The boat is in the yard and boats float! Plus we have a raft. If they evacuate the neighborhood, Zachary and Hayley are both capable of driving to the shelter (the high school). The house I work at floods randomly (we have an alarm) so it is more likely to happen on my end of things.
If everything goes right, we will be in no real danger and will be able to enjoy some wild weather and maybe get some awesome pics of the big swells that are being predicted!

8/24/11
I went to bed late, woke up early, tried to fall back to sleep, finally out of bed by 9:20. Workout completed. Coffee ingested. Now I have to go tanning and then work, then home to watch Bella, get dinner, do timesheets and paperwork, and go to bed. Inservice tomorrow morning.

Ok...Serious Wants...
I just fell in love deeply with Elie Saab le Parfum. IN SERIOUS LOVE! (Available at Saks and Nordstroms in case my husband is shopping.) I just may trade in my Eternity for this! Been wearing Eternity since it debuted forever ago.
I also really really like the new Mountain quilted short (Ugg boot) in seal.
I also fell in love with Dooney & Bourke's The Smith Bag, in camel.
Grand total: $650
Price of keeping your wife happy...$priceless
Oh, oh, oh...still NEED Nikes Legend amazing butt pants in Capri length.
Currently listening to Pandora. Chilling in my bed wearing some cut-offs, reading Vogue, drinking coconut water, smelling like Elie Saab.

Better
Feeling so much better, which is a good thing. So much to do. I have to squeeze in two workouts today because I was feeling so poorly on Saturdy and Sunday, that I didn't work out. I only tanned one day last week. I haven't gotten my nails done in like a month. I have to work for a bit and figure out a yummy dinner. I think we've decided on a quinoa base with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and bananas mixed in, with a little vanilla flavoring, and coconut on top!

Yuck
Headache, sore throat, stomachache.
After 8 AM tomorrow, I will have the next 30 hours off.
So yesterday, we had a Spanish rice version of quinoa. Made the same way, just substituted the rice with quinoa. I completely love how versatile this food is! Also used chicken broth instead of water to prepare it. Very yummy.

Success!!!
American Eagle jeans are ON!!! Zipped!!! And buttoned!!!
They're tight, and not necessarily a flattering tight right now, but dammit, they're on again!!! Another few weeks and these will be loose! I don't want them to get too big because these jeans are like five years old. I doubt American Eagle will ever push out awesomeness likethese jeans ever again!!! I read an article about favorite jeans and the two were Gap and American Eagle. Gap is a no brainer. They're stretchy and run big. American Eagle runs smallish to true to size I guess, so I'm surprised they made it to the top two. They make your butt look AMAZING!!!

Lucky!
My Lucky jeans fit too! Now I'm crossing my fingers that my very favorite of all lifetime American Eagle jeans fit again too! That may be a few weeks off yet, and I'm fine with that. I need something to work towards.
Happy Day!
Grabbed a random pair of jeans out of my closet. And these jeans were not my fat day jeans, to say the least, and I thought to myself, never gonna happen, but then thought the humiliation of not being able to squeeze into jeans that were once too big, would be good motivation for me to do a second work out today since I could only get one done yesterday. Well these jeans went right on!!! Even with premenstrual bloat and hot muggy summer air! And??? I still got a second hour of cardio in!
Also good news, Mitch is picking up Hayley for me and Kayla is taking the bus to work, so I will just have to get myself to work. Still 150 miles total for me but this is the last time I will be doing it!!!
I'm actually happiest because I worked out to Christmas music today! So excited about the upcoming holiday season. October through December!

Well...
The best news of yesterday is that it is over!!! So glad for that.
My schedule is changing up a bit starting next Friday. Instead of 150 miles of driving, it is a shift that requires no driving. Slight possibility of getting my ass kicked once in awhile, but more lucrative in the big scheme of things. I'm hoping my stress levels will improve for the better with this move. I can do 3-8 or 4-7. I will probably do the right thing and pick 3-8 but 4-7 sounds like just what the doctor has ordered! At least I won't be dishing out $60 extra in gas, which will be $240 saved every month.
Hell week is almost over. I went deeper into Hell than I wanted or anticipated yesterday. Obviously there was a reason we needed to be off the road for a bit and if that reason kept the baby safe, then it was very much worth the inconvenience.
At least I'm at the fun part of stressed out. The point where really all you can do is laugh at the absurdity of it all. And when the trouble struck, I called AAA and took care of things to the best of my ability, without calling my husband. It was like the old me took over and I kind of miss that girl! It is easier to just handle things on my own, instead of worrying about what I will do when something happens (and it always does) when my husband is unavailable.
The agenda today: work out, tan, get ready, pick up Hayley at 3:30, then get Kayla dropped off at work, bring Hayley and Bella home and then go to work myself.

Grrrrr!!
Finally home. Thank goodness for AAA. Not that he could do much with my frozen/stuck spare under my van, but he was calming at least. Of all days to have a flat, it has to be when I'm with Janice, her 90 year old mother, and Bella!!! And I'm wearing a skirt!!! Because I love being dressed like that on the side of the road and then get to hang out in BJ's tire shop. Super fun day!
iWants
I have a case of the iWants this morning. Should never look at a J. Crew catalog upon waking. But, coffee is in my system now and cooler heads are prevailing when I actually think about it. What I truly want is for my husband and I to look as cool and carefree as the people wearing the clothes. While my husband is model size 6'3, I'm not. 5'5 3/4 is average. Average bodies just struggle with the cool layered look because added bulk isnt flattering on most folks! I look best naked because I hate puckering, gapping, the dreaded overflow look when trying to prevent puckering and gapping. I hate pants too long, too short, too tight, too big. This is why I live in leggings these days, just like a preschooler! Or shorts. I wear a lot of shorts! I can pull off the t-shirt look. A tank and sweater or zippered hoodie. Any kind of scarf or additional layer leaves me feeling strangled and odd looking. I have boobs and fabulous hair. I really need no other accessory but I get the iWants when I see someone pull the layered look off. Ah well, I will be saying goodbye to my summer wardrobe in another month or two anyway.
In other news, the quinoa salad was a hit with the kids, jalepenos and all! Zachary especially loves the muscle building high protein part of it! It is one of the only foods with ALL amino acids in it!!! I'm going to use it whenever we would incorporate rice or mashed potatoes!
I just did a plain hour of cardio on the recumbent yesterday. Going to try for one today and then probably a brisk 3-miler around the neighborhood this evening and then see how far I can get through the bootcamp workout before collapsing! I'm going to try and have these fat blaster days at least twice a week.

A Day "Off"
I don't know if I should call it a day off. Already been up since 6. Zachary had to be at practice by 8. Needs to be picked up at 12:30. Kayla needs a ride to the nursing home for a CNA meeting. I'm preaching to a choir full of moms. I know.
Might try a quinoa salad for dinner tonight, with corn, tomatoes, avocados, jalepenos and lime. I want something healthy and yummy.
I think there is something to be said about this muscle confusion theory, or the old school cross-training theory. I didn't necessarily increase my intensity at all, just switched up the activity. The changes in my physical appearance are once again not so subtle. Not sure which workout I will do today.
129 days till Christmas! That makes me happy. It goes by so fast though! Especially after Halloween.

Very Slowly
The house is very slowly coming together. I thank the rainy day Gods for the break in summer sun so I don't have to feel guilty for staying indoors and cleaning. Bella is actually better behaved when you're cleaning. She actually entertains herself! When you sit down for a break, she's back at expecting you to entertain her.
I've swept. Dishes are done. Not only are dishes done, but the sinks are scrubbed out and BEHIND the faucet has been decontaminated. My kids just dont seem to understand that this is to be included when I say do the dishes! Appliances are in the appliance cupboard. Counters have been scrubbed. Little table cleared off. I'm getting a plastic tote. A good sized one. And in this tote will be mail for the year that I don't feel comfortable tossing until 2012. Receipts, car crap, bills, banking info, etc. The ONLY bills I want anywhere in the kitchen are the ones currently due. Period. Also included in the tote will be school correspondence. Work correspondence is usually filed in my work folder. A tote looks a heck of a lot better than crap all over my counters.
Next up on my list of things to get done in the next week:
Clean fridge
Clean freezer
Wash cupboards
De-scum the shower doors outside with the hose and clean the tub/shower more thoroughly while the doors are off
Go through clothes
I feel much better now that I have it all written down.
I haven't even gotten out of my pajama bottoms yet this morning. Just been cleaning and febreezing. Candles have been burning all morning. Just need to wash the floors. Might just do that tomorrow.

Reading
I was reading an article about reading vacations. A vacation solely dedicated to reading. Little talking, unless you are on a book club vacation, in which all the guests read the same book for discussion at dinner and other scheduled times.
I don't know about any of you, but my vacations are spent catching up, squeezing in as much QT as possible, scheduling, planning, playing referee and sightseeing. I'm usually left exhausted and needing a vacation to recover from my vacation! Little time is spent actually reading and relaxing! Don't get me wrong, I love the other kinds of vacations too, but what I currently need is a reading vacation!
What I would love to do in my grown up life is maybe teach 7th and 8th grade language arts again and in my summers off, run a bed and breakfast reading retreat. And if you're failing my class, instead of summer school, you have to come and work at the retreat! Hahaha! And during the book club retreat weeks, the entire food and drink menu would be centered around the book.
My dream weeks would be Judy Blume week and Diana Gabaldon week! *Sigh*

So Much for Not Fancy
I jogged for an hour. So much for taking it easy. My legs hurt so bad from the bootcamp workout that the jogging made them feel better. I'm feeling much better now. The quiche is cooking. I've had candles burning all day in my room so it smells yummy. I'm going to settle in and watch movies for the night. I was going to have a drink, but after all that working out, I think I will settle for some water with lemon.
Ick
Another Monday. I'm very very happy to see rain. So very tired of heavy tourist traffic.
My lower body is so sore! I did my usual cardio (an hour on the recumbent) but then I did my bootcamp DVD. I haven't done it in forever. Mostly because it was misplaced. Can't believe I used to be able to do the complete video 2 or 3 times per day!!! Today, I will do my walking DVD. Nothing fancy.
This is going to be an annoying week for me but just a little preview of the hell that will be my life for the next few months. Not only do I need to work, Zachary has football games and practices, Kayla has work and her CNA class/work about 30 minutes away, Hayley needs rides when she's helping out with Bella, and of course, I watch Bella when I'm not working, and sometimes even when I AM working.
I really wish I didn't have to work right now. Or work as much. It isn't even work that's wearing me out, so i dont even think not working will help. Work is probably what's keeping me that one or two steps away from crazy. It is mostly not enough hours in the day. I find when I get my spare moments to do MY upkeep (tanning, working out, nails) I'm frigging DONE. I hit a wall. I get to the point where driving through beach traffic to get two miles down the road to tan or get my nails done is too overwhelming.
Bella is so funny now! She makes me laugh all the time. She's been so good lately in the car and when I have to drag her to a meeting. Everyone loves her. Last week, at a meeting, she went around and gave everyone a kiss and hug. People stop me in stores so they can pat her head and tell me how cute she is. They did this every time I would take my girls shopping when they were little and my friends used to LOVE going shopping with us because of all the attention they would get. Zachary would have gotten attention like that, however, he HATED shopping and would be the biggest pain in the rear every time I had to take him in a store.
She loves to read her Dr. Seuss books. She loves to hold the microphone and sing and dance. She loves when she makes people laugh. She loves when you hold her and sing and dance. She loves to be chased and caught! She loves playing in the dog's dishes and walking on the coffee table. She loves going outside to play or swim. If you're missing something, it'll likely be in her toy box or "her" cupboard (Aunt Hayley's bathing suit, for instance). She loves her family and her dog. She loves to wear your shoes. She loves loves loves the "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My" part in The Wizard of Oz. She is just a whole lot of fun!!!

Journey concert tomorrow night!!! Me, Ammie, Jeremy and Janice are going to have a GREAT time!!!
I've had a pretty productive day off I'd say. Sat in the sun, worked out, went tanning, got gas, went to the grocery store, have dinner going now. We're trying a new chicken pasta salad, using yogurt instead mayo. There's still mayo, just not as much as you'd typically use. The recipe also calls for almonds, cranberries, cantaloupe, and mint. I added feta and some Parm to it because I had to use the rest of the feta.
I also rented some movies because I had a free red box rental I needed to use before the 14th. I have to bring Zachary to the high school at 5ish to pick up his football gear. Double practices start on Monday for him. Goodbye summer!

Journey!!!
4 sleeps till the Journey concert!!! So super excited!!!
Tonight I'm making taco soup for dinner. One of our favorites. Last night we had creamy pasta and chicken primavera. Another favorite.
I got one hour of cardio in. Going to shoot for another maybe. Right now I'm listening to some tunes in my room. I caught up on some current event reading. A Longread about a Holocaust survivor. A read on one of my favorite books, The Bell Jar, on its 40th anniversary!!! Which lead to some catching up on one of my favorite poets, Adrienne Rich, whom I've had the honor and pleasure of meeting. Which lead me to contemplating the tragic loss of Sylvia Plath and what could have been.
Anxious to get back into writer mode. This is a very good thing. Haven't had so many ideas swimming around for awhile.
Looking forward to some vacations with my husband. Mexico. The Grand Canyon. The Caribbean. Florida. Puerto Rico. Scotland.

Yep
Yep, it's a Monday. I've been up since around 6. I somehow let my husband talk me into taking a three hour nap yesterday. We then woke up, decided on dinner, had a drink, listened to music and then watched two movies before falling back to sleep. What I didn't do was take advantage of the rainy day and CLEAN!
So my list of things to do today:
Clean
Go through clothes
Tan
2 hours of cardio
Cook a yummy dinner
Listen to music
Read a little
I will be doing well if I accomplish any of this.

Coffee
Coffee is the best discovery. Coffee and the sweetest good morning Bella kisses make it hard to stay feeling blah!
I'm still not moving super fast but my outlook is improving for the better. I will feel much better after I drop off my paper work, come home, hop in the shower, sit in the sun for a bit, go tanning and relax till it is time to go out with Tonya. Home to sleep. Up early to get Alexis and Cody back to Portland. On Sunday, I might just find time to have fun with my husband.

Blah!!!!!!!!
That's how I feel today.
Overwhelmed. Must be August.
I think my schedule might be getting a bit better though. It will if I can get rid of my Friday shift.
I don't even want to think of all the little things I need to get done next week. The highlight will be the Journey concert. I only wish my husband was doing the driving. Guess I better practice driving the new Tahoe since that is what I will be taking to Mansfield.
I really need some coffee right this very second. Hate waiting.
I need to drive to Jamestown this morning to drop off stupid paperwork that has to be done every week now. The third time I've been there this week! I had Bella three nights this week. And she had two nights of not falling quickly to sleep. I wish I could go back to last Friday night in the hotel.
I guess I need to get in gear. Paperwork has to be there by noon.

Inservice
I have an inservice this afternoon. Hayley, Lexi and Bella will be going with me to Jamestown. They will spend the afternoon at the playground, beach and library. I'm hoping we finish up early, which we usually do.

Phewwww!
After a short hiatus, my status as a contributor has been restored. I know that you all noticed I was removed from the blog and worried that you may never here from me again. Well after some intense negotiations, we came to agreement that the blog would suffer from the lack of my 3 times a year bogs and occasional incoherent attempt at humor. We greatly appreciate your patience during this time and are excited about the renewed excitement about this fabulous blog. I hope to be please you the way Jennifer does and be a more consistent contributor.
New Habit
When the weather is nice my plan is to get up and get my hour of cardio in, and while doing so, mull over where I want the blog to head that day, and blog outside while drinking my coffee.
I used to get up, blog in bed, while drinking coffee, but then that leads to checking current events, current sales, etc, and then more blogging, and the next thing I know, the morning has been wasted.
I'm headed to the beach for a few hours I think. Tired of not going just because I can't get a full day in. At this point, if I wait for a full day, I will have no summer left. I'm also tired of not going because I don't want to deal with effing vacationers. I've never seen such a large group of people with such little respect for traffic laws, others' property, not littering, I could bitch forever on this topic. If you DON'T live in southern Rhode Island, or have not been invited by someone who Does live in southern Rhode Island, we don't want you here. That means you, New York, CT, NJ...I will make exceptions for people from Mass because we're like the same state, and I know people from Mass have to deal with millions of vacationers in their pristine Cape Cod area. I also make exceptions for people from Maine because they know how to treat others' property and don't come to town and think they own everything. The rest of you, go to Atlantic city, or swim in the Hudson River. I don't care. Unlike other states, Rhode Islanders don't want or need your money. We're doing alright and are quite willimg to spend our money in our own state!

Saw Harry Potter again. This time at the IMAX. Awesome 3D experience. We literally had THE best seats. I ordered them on my movie.com app the day before. Simply great.
Also ate some awesome Indan fare before the show. I love that Zachary is willing to try anything. He's not picky when it comes to exotic foods. What a fun kid! I told the guy we were Indian food newbies and he kept giving us spoonfuls of all the different foods. Each sample got better and better! We decided on a version of spicy chicken curry and a vegetarian side along with the most delicious onion Naan EVER. Zachary also tried and now loves raw mahi. He has been eating sushi for awhile but with his dad, he tried real raw sushi and said he's never going back to fast food sushi again! Haha. I am going to look at some authentic Indian recipes and see if I can come up with some new ideas.
It is 80 degrees or so outside and I'm freezing!

I feel so incredibly sick to my stomach right now. My head is pounding. I wish I could go into work early to take my mind off of things.
I do not take too kindly to situations being manipulated. In fact, I simply refuse to be around those types of people, even if I'm related to them. However, the more I pull away, the crazier the situation gets.
March through June has been stressful and financially straining, with the extra $5000 we pulled out of thin air to keep both our vehicles on the road. Not to mention the $4000 in income tax and the almost $4000 from last year. And the 60 plus hours I was working weekly to try and help so we could pay the rest of our bills without falling behind. So really? Fuck anybody that expects me to fucking drop everything, change my plans, interrupt our life, expect me to be nice when my life gets fucking disrupted every June, and now July, and not to mention I watch Bella when I'm not working at my job, so I can hear people whine about what they're not getting from my husband? And then I get to sit and watch my husband fucking cater to these people at every turn? Because really? Parents die. Kids grow up and live their own lives. All you have, if you're lucky, is your spouse. It's too bad when you've been so busy dealing with everyone else that when you turn around, your best friend has checked out a long time ago and you didn't even realize it, or care to.

I actually got alot accomplished this morning. Way more than I anticipated. Workout already completed. Going tanning in a few. Hair/make-up fixed about as good as it's going to get in the hot, humid weather. I might actually get a minute or two to sit with my feet in the pool.
Unfortunately, the day is going to get worse for me. I get to drive from one end of the state to the other, with a broken ac, and then drive another 100 miles on top of that! I have all of next week off except a few hours on Monday. Can't come quick enough!

Wow!
So it's no secret that I detest a certain blogger (her name rhymes with Jeanine Edwards) and she's done it again! Just got done reading the comments from her loyal readers, many of whom are currently jumping ship! Her thoughts on hand me downs are eye opening that is for sure!
First, I love love love designer clothes. Why? I'm a Leo. It is what I am. Do I love paying full price on designer clothes? Heck no. The only time I pay designer prices is when it is a gift for my husband and my expectation is he returns the favor. That being said, I scour the internet daily for deals, coupon codes, free shipping, frequent buyer deals, AND hold your breath, second hand stores!
The afore mentioned blogger begrudgingly accepts hand-me-downs, but would rather not. What? Now, I'm in agreement you don't need to pass down a kid's underwear, but I don't know about you, but I'd LOVE a friend who passes down Ella Moss clothing to Bella. Some gently used Baby Gap, you betcha. There's ALWAYS room in my home for some baby Uggs and any and all Ralph Lauren. Who doesn't love a little Juicy on their girl? (FYI, I'm not and never have been a Walmart/Kmart/Kohls/Target clothes wearing kind of person and so I don't shop there for Bella, except for diapers, wipes, onsies, etc. Besides, as her Nonni, the expectation is that I can splurge on her.) As a previous young mom, if it weren't for the kindness and generosity of my more affluent family and friends, Kayla certainly wouldn't have been so well dressed.
My guess is that a person who looks down on hand me downs probably came from nothing and has a deep down need to distance themselves from that. Just a guess. Or they're a bitter second or third child.

Still Foggy
The fog should've cleared by now. I'm going tanning instead. Oh well, it allowed me to work out, shower, shave my legs, etc.
I've been contemplating a lot of things today. Namely privacy, or lack of it, regarding the Internet. Granted, as an aspiring writer, one needs to be "out" there but things can sometimes get downright creepy.
Not talking about any specific event. To my knowledge, only bitter enemies or exes search my name on a regular basis. And that isn't even my point anyway.
I keep my facebook private and may have originially signed up for other similar sites, but have long forgotten the password, or have deemed it a waste, Twitter, etc. Again, this really has nothing to do with my point.
I've been blogging since 2004. Things I used to blog about, I wouldn't even consider now, because the anonymity is long gone.
I guess I just have some decisions to make. For instance, I love my blog. I love that I have loyal readers. I don't love that people can search my name and the blog shows up on google. I don't mind if people are searching for the blog itself because I too have stumbled on many a blog that I liked, but didn't think to bookmark it and had to do a google search. I don't mind if friends who know about the blog google away to find it. I guess my worry is about people who are only searching for me and what shows up first is my blog. 2004 was a LONG time ago. I'm proud of my blog, and how far I've come personally, and it isn't private to the anonymous reader, or even to friends who've been with the blog from the start, but to people I meet today? Or yesterday? Would I tell them every detail of the last 7 years? Very unlikely.
And if I were to become a successful writer, is every detail, picture, video, or anything else cached on the vast WWW in regards to my person, fair game for any and every body?

Saw the last Harry Potter yesterday. Let's just say Deathly Hollows part 2 certainly makes up for part 1!!!
Think we're headed down to the beach today. Tomorrow too. It'll probably end up getting too hot but we're going to give it a try anyway. Even if we get a couple hours in, I will consider it a success.
Went to the Gulls game in Newport on Monday for work.
What an exciting life I do lead.

I haven't been very consistent with blogging My days have been full of sun worship, reading, working out and working. The shape of my house can clearly attest to that! I need a rainy day off to catch up with things around here.
Going tanning in a bit. Not even going to try and catch the sun with all these patchy clouds in the sky. Too much effort. Should top out at 90 degrees today. Loving it. We're supposed to get strong thunderstorms late this afternoon. I really hope so. This is the only day in the next week to get even an inkling of rain.
Yesterday was a great day. Lounged outside for the whole of it. Enjoyed some Smirnoff Blueberry & Lemonade. Very yummy. Reminds me of Smirnoff Ice but yummy anyway. Can't wait to try the other flavors. Also have Skinny Girl margaritas. Haven't tried that yet. Wine coolers and the like are much more palatable on hot summer days, I think, than heavy wines. We had chicken, steak and swordfish steak on the grill last night. Baked potatoes, fresh green beans and some stuffing. My husband is quite the grill master. I think my favorite is still his grilled pizza. Next Gilles meal, I'm having scallop skewers with pineapple and maybe onion, marinated in teriaki. I will get to eat lobster once Zach is home. Kind of like drinking alone, I can't eat a lobster alone and only Zach and I like them.
We had the fire going last night because apparently my body shivers at 84 degrees. I was even wrapped in my snuggie, but we put it out early and came inside for bed. I was out like a light by probably 8, and slept till 9 this morning. Definitely needed the sleep.
Kind of secretly hoping the game gets rained out tonight. Ok, maybe not so secretly.

Ugh, I woke up at 5 and made the bad decision of staying in bed to fall back to sleep. Now my face is puffy and I have a headache.
I'm going outside to drink some coffee and read.

Feeling Good
The 2 hours (and sometimes 2:45:00) of cardio everyday are paying off well. I was only doing it a couple of times per week, but this week, it has been everyday since Sunday. I just felt like amping it up a bit and in doing so, have discovered a very important piece to my puzzle. I have a lot of nervous energy. This nervous energy causes me to wake up several times per night, I have trouble falling back to sleep once I'm awake, I tend to be exhausted and more cranky and less able to deal the next day, etc, etc, etc. Since I've been doubling up my workouts, I don't stress at all about what I'm eating. It gives me plenty of wiggle room. Exercise is also a great appetite suppressant for me. I literally fall asleep within minutes of my head hitting the pillow, like I remember it being when I was a kid. I am certainly sleeping more soundly. I also think the fan is helping with that, like the humidifier does in the winter. Because I am utilizing all of my sleep moments to the fullest, I'm feeling surprisingly energized throughout the day, even with the extra workouts. My lung capacity is increasing, my body shrinking. I feel like I've found the fountain of youth.
I personally feel like I still have a ways to go but I'm doing alright. I would love to be pre-Zach weight again. I certainly can't blame him for baby weight and I'm not but I had him when I was 22 and women's bodies shift weight around as they age. I went into the pregnancy with my teenager body and came out of it with a woman body. Not necessarily bad. It is just weird to think about. In my 30s, I feel skinny at 130 but at age 22, the day I gave birth to Zach, I weighed in at 145 and felt like a walking blimp. It is just weird how body perceptions change and where the weight is. Obviously, when pregnant, all of the weight was in my stomach and breast areas. Not looking to have my teenager body back, but I am interested in seeing what my woman body looks like at that weight. Make sense?

Two hours of cardio...done!
Staff meeting 11-1...canceled!

Can this day get any better I ask you???
Going tanning in a few. Going to try and talk David into a movie or something local. 10 days till Zach is home and he can resume his trash and dog duties.

Alrighty...quick post...drinking my coffee, going to do an hour of cardio, tan, and head to the beach with Bella and Hayley.
So I read a blogpost about Hunter ripping off Hermes. No problem with that till the author said Hunter ripped off Marc Jacobs ballet flats. Then I had to LAUGH OUT LOUD. Literally. They're ballet flats! Kind of hard to be original there. Hey, you copied my flip flops!!! Damn you, that's MY bow tie! Yet nobody has ripped off Hunter's wellies???
Anyway, I detest the ballet flat trend and can't wait to see it disappear. They make your feet look like fat hot dogs shoved in too small buns. Shoes with rounded toes are hideous, as are too pointy of a toe.

Well I'm up. Workout completed. Going to hop in the shower, go tanning, get ready and go to work for a few hours. Pretty sick of the humidity that's for sure.
I've been doing 2 hours of cardio per day although yesterday I did 2 hours and 40 minutes. I feel great. I'm certainly sleeping better!
I just love my recumbent bike. I love air conditioning. And I love my iPhone and watching Season 16 of America's Next Top Model while working out! Today I watched an episode of The Vampire Diaries on it while working out. I wish ALL my favorite stations would create their own apps like CW has. I also love the Crackle app and being able to watch movies for free. And of course the Vevo app for music videos. Brings me back to original MTV days! Oh oh oh, also love Pandora radio app for when I'm working out outside or laying in the sun! There really is nothing my iPhone can't do. Although blogging on the iPad is a lot easier, that's for sure.
So my list of favorite gifts my husband has given me...my iPhone is my all-time favorite. Next is my iPad. Followed by my recumbent bike which I received when we were still living in the other house.

Can't believe I actually have to work today. Seems surreal almost. It is already 84 this early in the morning. Loving it. I need to make some coffee.
Let's see...I hate the days when I have too much to say. It stays jumbled in my head. Mostly it is about the stupidity of a lot of people. Let's for instance a moment shall we? The stupid woman outside of the courthouse yesterday stating, "now millions of people are going to think it's okay to murder their children and they can get away with it!" Hmmmm, yeah, that was my first thought. I can murder my own kids now! I guess my issue is I have more of an issue with lynch mob mentality than the actual alleged murderer.
I've watched all of the home movies. There is zero evidence in the footage that she was mistreated or unloved. Obviously something happened. The baby is dead. The family is spectaculary crazy. The fact that the man that found the body told his son he was involved and this son testified to that effect doesn't raise questions? As soon as that son got on the stand, I immediately felt like there was more to the story and that they might be going after the wrong person.
The whole situation is bizarre. Who doesn't call an ambulance to help their baby? My gut feeling is something accidental happened and once the baby was found dead, too much time had passed to get her breathing again...so now not only is your baby dead, if authorities come they're going to question your whereabouts and why you didn't call for help sooner. If say, you were out partying and had left her alone unsupervised, for instance, you'd not have had a chance to call till it was too late. In my opinion, it never should have been a murder one trial. Should have been child endangerment, manslaughter, failure to report, and lying to authorities.
However, to the people that spent money and hours at this trial who where in no way connected to the case but just curious...YOU are crazy. To the people that issue death threats to the family, lawyers, jurors...YOU are crazy. To the Christians who seem to minimize or forget all that they've been forgiven...YOU are crazy. So shut the eff up and let's find something else to obsess about. Find a hobby. Get an education. Get a life.
And if anyone wonders, my heart breaks for the baby. How can I not look at the similarities of the Anthony family dynamic and my own, minus the crazy. My daughter and baby granddaughter live with us. Our family would be shattered if anything happened to our sweet Bella.
To the jurors...you did your jobs. There's reasonable doubt all over this case. Even if your gut says she's guilty, you can't convict on murder one with reasonable doubt. The prosecution should have never pursued this charge. She'd be serving time with a manslaughter charge.

I promise I will recap the 4th at some point. Bella was adorable once the show started. It never rained! There was a chance of a thunderstorm about an hour before the show started but it ended up north of Boston. Zach said it was storming in VA when he texted. Looks like we were in the perfect spot.
Today I've changed the trash. Cleaned out the fridge, which equated to two more trash bags. Really 4 cartons of eggs each filled with 5 or 6 eggs? The dates are good, so egg salad sandwiches and egg/potato salad it is!!! Not sure why there's iceberg lettuce in the fridge, seeing as how we don't eat iceberg lettuce. Guess it makes sense to buy a head of lettuce to just use two leaves.
On Sunday, we had some filets that needed to be used up so we had that cooked on the grill, with grilled seasoned potatoes, and a steamed broccoli/cauliflower/carrot mix. Great meal!!!
Our little neighborhood was firework central Sunday night so Mitch and I walked around the neighborhood in the dark. It was still in the high 80s so I was just wearing my sleep shirt! It was dark and everyone that was up at that point was drunk! Haha.
Teeth are brushed. Face washed. Hair combed. Workout completed this morning. I'm hoping to go for a walk this evening. Gonna clean some more and try and get Bella down for a nap.

Blah
I feel so sick. I have a horrible headache. Feel like I'm going to puke. Every time I stand up, I feel like I'm going to pass out. My neck is killing me and my throat is on fire. Lovely. I just want my husband.

6/30/11
Good riddance June! What a horrible month!
I am so frigging tired. I'm tired of being tired. Tired of being stressed out all the time. I should have slept good last night because I worked out twice yesterday.
Getting my work done and going to bed early tonight!
I'm hoping to have a relaxing 4th. I'm not going to stress about anything. Not going to care about getting the best spot. What made the first 4th of July in Boston 13 years ago so much fun for me was that there were no expectations on my behalf, no major plan, nothing to compare it to. At this point the planning isn't really stressful. Pretty much down to a science. Bring enough water, shade and seats. The less square footage, the less you have to patrol and keep people off. Some people get quite brazen and will actually get on your blanket and stand in front of you, and I've been known to lose my shit at that point. It is comparable to road rage, I guess. But after being in line since 4:30 am, then waiting the long hot day away once youve gotten your spot, since the concert doesn't even begin till 6 or 7, you can get kind of angry when someone shows up two minutes before the show and decides to "share" your spot, or even stand in front of your chair.
I just want to have only fun this year. Ironically, I always have my period every 4th of July, but this year, I'm having it currently, so maybe, just maybe, my mood will be more tolerable to douchebagness. And maybe I'm going to fill up some water bottles with vodka. Grape koolade and vodka. Yummy!!! Could end up being the best 4th yet!

Hahaha
One hour on the recumbent bike erased the calories I would consume today! It is too hot to workout outside and I'm thinking if I wait till it cools down tonight, I will lose my motivation. Love my recumbent bike, air conditioning and various workout DVDs. Even the Wii. I still prefer an outdoor workout because it incorporates all your senses. And actually I still prefer having fun than "working out".
6/29/11
So I really want the new Nike Legend pants. They haven't hit the stores yet. And it is looking like they'll run around $70 but I'm hoping the capris will be a little less because I prefer that length than long pants, and if the capris are less than I can get more than one pair! There's also a pair of Capri length North Face sweats that I want to get my hands on!

Perfect
What a simply perfect day with Bella! We played (and played and played and played). We read stories. She did not have one bottle today. Ate all her food. And mine. Only threw one fit because she wanted a sippy cup for EACH hand! Was so very photogenic and funny all day! We took a relaxing walk after dinner. She played outside for one last hurrah, and now she's out like a light next to me in my bed. Fell asleep listening to Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Coldplay etc. This baby heals my soul.
Miss Drama Queen
She fell and literally laid like this for over a minute without moving until I asked her if she was okay. Then she started to cry. Lol!
Yummm!
Bella is napping so I took advantage and picked up. Everything has been swept, dusted, washed, febreezed, lysoled, etc, etc...now I'm just enjoying the quiet and the clean and I have my candles burning, AND it is only 10:30 am!
6/28/11
Ahhhh, a day off. Watching Bella till 10:30 pm but still a day off.
It is going to be another hot one but I'm in hopes that Bella and I can get our walk in. Another molar in for her, more almost through. Poor baby.
I bought some Febreeze oil plug-in refills for the bathroom...in the dual Gain and Clean Linen scent. Smells like I'm doing laundry all day long. Love it! So that means it'll probably disappear off the shelves and be discontinued.
So Zach is working for his dad this vacation. Making $10/hour and working 10 hour days. 6 days per week. Not bad for a 17 year old!!! When he gets home, football conditioning starts. Not much of a summer.
Can't wait for the 4th!

Thoroughly Pissed
Maybe it is because I was repeatedly woken up the last two nights but I think not.
So let me get this straight, Bella can't throw fits or cry for attention at age 1. In fact, I believe I've been told on a number of occasions that the right course of action is to just let her cry. Zach has to work or earn his meals. He's not allowed to touch anything that does not belong to him, yet my stuff is up for grabs.
Yet I'm the ridiculous and unreasonable person because I expect things to be equal. My children, even my adult ones, are in bed by 9 or 10 the latest. Always. Unless they're working or babysitting. None of them come banging on our bedroom door at 2:30 in the morning unless there is a medical emergency. In fact, I believe I got up on several occasions when Bella was a new baby to blast Kayla when she was being loud or not responding to Bella as quickly as she could, because Mitch had to work in the morning and Zach had school and it simply wasn't fair to them.

Nothing really to blog about at 8:30 this morning. That's good, I guess. Going to hop in the shower, go tanning and hopefully run some errands! I'm craving fruit! Going to hopefully hit up Trader Joe's for my organic produce needs. Craving grilled eggplant too! I was desperate for lobster the other day. Growing up in Maine, you get used to eating a TON of lobster! Truth be told, though, I prefer king crab!

Ugh!
Just read the most ridiculous blog EVER. I was checking out kid's fashion blogs and stumbled across it. I'm not naming names. I trust you all know how to google. Suffice it to say the blog IS in the top 25.
I did find it humorous that while she was touting previous abundant Christian Louboutin ownership prior to motherhood, she mentioned her child will be sporting "the shoe that must not be named". I'm not naming to avoid the annoying ads on top of my blog posts of said dreaded shoe (that would be C-r-o-c-s). How can one type Christian Louboutin AND the dreaded shoe that must not be named in the same blog???

Awwww!
I just ordered Bella's 1st LL Bean backpack. She may be going to Maine with her Aunt Hayley for a week and so this will keep her clothes together! The diaper bag can hold diapers/wipes/bathing necessities, etc for the car ride. I'm expecting her grandfather can pick up some diapers as needed while she's in Maine. It is an adorable pink flower bag which will have Annabella monogrammed on it. Speaking from my own high school and college days, not to mention raising three kids, you just can't beat the Bean pack OR their lifetime warranty!!! Zero zero zero hassle when exchanging a bag. My dog from years ago actually chewed a hole in one and the bag was exchanged no questions asked! Phenomenal service. Phenomenal quality. Proud my granddaughter will experience the tradition!!!
We will find out this weekend if Hayley and Bella will be going to Maine. Depends on if Bella's Gramp has to work or not. Kayla's excited about maybe getting a week off from being Mommy! She's definitely hoping to be able to get some uninterrupted beach time! It'll be nice to get a break but I'm really going to miss the little cutie if she goes!

Bella turned 14 months yesterday!!! Such a sweet baby.
Staff meeting 11-1 today. Seriously have no idea why we need two a month but I will see Scott today!! First time since he was out on fmla. It'll be nice having some active energy on staff again. The rest of us are worn out!
Oh well. Got to get ready for this meeting. Blech.

Felt yucky all day yesterday. Fever and chills. Mild Flu-like. Odd feeling when it is 85 outside.
Spending today with my Bella. Not sure what we're going to do. Her back teeth are coming in full force. Two already through. The rest of her gums are swollen. She's c-r-a-n-k-y!!! So probably first stop will be to buy some motrin. The good news is once they're in, they're in! Zach needs to get picked up at 10:30.
Lionel Richie will be with the Pops this 4th of July. Cool. More excited about spending the day with my husband.
Can't wait till the Journey concert August 12!!!

So Exhausted
I am going to bed as soon as I get home tonight. I can barely keep my eyes open right now.

6/18/11
I really don't want to get out of my pajamas this morning. Working 3 through the overnight tonight and 3 through the overnight tomorrow. Monday I will be at J's 2-8 helping her some more. Tuesday I will be spending the day with my Bella- boo. Wednesday, staff meeting and then with David. Thursday with J, and I have Friday off.
Zach leaves on Thursday for a month. Bella is going to miss him. She knocks on his bedroom door and cries when he's at school so this will be a long month of her knocking and him not answering and her being sad. Sierra will also miss Zach. (Of course, we will all miss him, but probably Bella and Sierra the most!)
Did I mention I don't want to get out of my pajamas?

And...
That last post applies to more than one person...and to more than one situation.
What I would like is for that white elephant that is always in the room, to take up residence elsewhere. What I would like is to interact with people who are direct once in awhile. I am direct. If I'm mad, sad, happy, peaceful, you know it. Right or wrong, tactful, not always, but there's little wondering. If you eff up, I tell you that you effed up and I usually move on.
I was reading a cry baby blog post about emotional abuse towards men. Grrrr. So if a man feels like he can't talk to his wife about something without "setting her off" he's being emotionally abused??? Made my head spin in an exorcist kind of way. My guess is if the man is aware of what pisses her off in the first place, why would he continue to do so? Nobody should HAVE to walk on eggshells, but most spouses know exactly what to say or do, or what not to say or do, to avoid or engage in an argument; and to argue fair and clean, with a resolution in mind, one may have to walk on eggshells. Furthermore, I personally take offense to any implication that being a strong, independent, intelligent, willful, willing to resort to whatever means necessary to protect and provide for her family, as being deemed abusive.
Another furthermore, most women I know who happen to be like the above description were quite pleasantly providing for their families or their self when propositioned, and were probably quite succinct as to the ground rules prior to dating or being married, and were pursued by an individual anyway.
I also take offense to a statement in the blogpost that witholding or using sex is abusive. Does this author think that just because an individual is married, they must have still have sex even if they're angry, hurt, sad, or just having a bad day??? That is blurring a line I would not like to see crossed. My body is MY body and I quite happily and readily share it with my husband when he and I are "on the same page" so to speak, which is more often than not for all of you noseys out there, but how is my withholding sex when I'm not feeling myself, abuse? And forcing or coercing an individual to engage in sex against their will is a far greater crime...rape.

Seriously
I hate being lied to, whether it be blatant or the more common form of omission.
I hate when someone promises me one thing and then does another.
I hate that I continue to BELIEVE in said promises.
I hate that I have to wish my whole summer away.
I hate that certain people are allowed to act obnoxious but Bella can't act like the one year old she is.
I hate feeling like the least important person in someone's life. Whether that is true or not does not change how it makes me feel.
I hate crying when I should be having fun.
I hate feeling like there is no place far enough away that I can go to.
I hate feeling defeated.
I hate not being able to sleep.
I hate when someone would rather buy my silence instead of earning my respect.
All that being said, I'm over it. I'm going out tonight and am going to have a fun time even if it kills me. I'm working Saturday night, Sunday night, Monday night. Bella and I will spend Tuesday together.

Rewind
Gah! Got my exercise in early. Also planning for at least 3 hours of heavy cleaning at J's later. Sweeping, vacuuming, rug washing, windows...her brother is coming to help now too! I told her to get her tunes ready when I talked to her this morning! She was a heavy smoker for a lot of years and any reformed smoker knows the lingering smell is the worst, so we're gonna try and help with that.
Next up, tanning. Maybe get a few minutes of reading in. I'm going to probably sleep good tonight!!!

6/16/11
I actually slept pretty well all night long! Which means I didn't wake up at 2 or 3 and lay awake for hours only to finally fall asleep and then sleep the morning away! I like to sleep 11-7. I try to keep that my schedule. I go to bed at 9 and watch tv or read.
Anyway I've been feeling poorly. My head has been killing me. Sinuses. My neck has been killing me. Stress.
I'm going to go tanning, read outside for a bit, maybe go for a quick walk and then meet up with Jane and Lisa at J's house because J had a near heart attack a few weeks ago and needs some help getting her house back in order. Oh well, we'll crank some tunes and get everything in tip top shape!
Ugh. The walk may be out. Already 80 degrees this early in the AM. We shall see.

6/14/11
I have my car back. I'm praying that there will be no more issues. This past week in the shop seems to be due to an installation era of the previous fix. Some wires in the harness appear to have been placed too close to the exhaust and melted. Please please please, let me get back to my life.
The weather has been a bit wacky but I'm certainly enjoying being able to open the windows and not have the air on.
Today is Tuesday. Taking a friend to a dr's appointment, Kayla to work, and the home to enjoy my day with Bella. If the rain holds off, we will take a walk.

Some Days
Some days a really long hot bath can help. I haven't been sleeping well. That is becoming the story of my life lately. I'm going tanning in a bit. I'm really glad the sun isn't shining. I just want to stay home. Cook, clean, relax. We changed the living room around Saturday and I have to say I'm really liking it.
We also went through the toy box and bagged up baby toys! Bella's done with rattles and teething rings. And this kid LOVES Dr. Suess, whom I dislike. I read The Cat in the Hat three times yesterday and Kayla read One Foot, Two Foot a couple of times to her, too. I guess I'm not surprised. She loves to be sung to and loves rhythmic beats, and Dr. Suess definitely has that sing-songy rhythmic rhyme.
I think tonight I will make quiche.
Probably not a good idea to fall asleep watching Ghost Adventures like I did Saturday night. The Saturday before that, it was Body of Evidence and the Saturday before that, probably River Monsters. On Saturday nights, I do an overnight in a haunted facility, coupled with my own imagination and my passion for B horror flicks, makes for a restless sleep.
Alrighty, gotta get my teeth brushed and figure out what I'm going to do with my hair and face. Dressing for comfort today.

I LOVE YOU!!!!
It is apparent by my wife's last post that she needs some public lov'in. So, As a good husband should, I will do what she wants (it's easy to do things she wants, when you want to do them anyway!).
I love you in the morning,
I love you at night.
I love you in the easy times,
I love you when we fight.
I love you when van is running
I love when it's not
I love you when it is cold
I love you when it is hot
I love you when I am not with you
I'll love you when your gray.
I love you, I love you, I love you
That's what I think about all day.
I just want to finish by saying that even though I have been working out and am looking fantastic (in my own mind), I am not having an affair or even looking at anyone else, despite what the Google machine says about the "Signs of Cheating"! I decided that it wasn't fair to my wife to walk around being so beautiful, sexy and perfect with an unfit, unattractive husband. Every time I work out I think about my wife, and being the most attractive (there are limitations with out plastic surgery), most healthy, most loving, most caring husband I can be! There is no one else in the world that can make me feel the way she does and I love her more than anything in the world!

Thursday Already
This week has flown by. I'm happy to see an unexpected rainy morning. It is supposed to hit 100 today, so the rain is a pleasant surprise. As I learned last summer, 100 degrees isn't very pleasant for a beach day, unless you're in the water the whole time...and with Bella around, you won't be in the water the whole time.
My husband is on day 8 of a winning streak! ;)
Work is never boring, that is for sure. Huge budget cuts. Our company is losing $32,000 a month. So we all got interesting news. I'm not really sure how it is going down, other than I've lost an hour. I would like to lose like 5 or 6!!! I know my bosses are looking out for me and are keeping my schedule the same because I'm loyal, hardworking, paying extra for car rentals while mine is STILL being fixed (different problem now) and I watch Bella on my days off. I really do appreciate their kindness. My under-24 shifts are under new management, but my assistant manager flat out told them she was keeping me as her staff...yet I only work one day there. The change ultimately will probably be better but I'm adverse to change by nature. This just may officially go down on the books as the most anxious summer ever!!!

6/7/11
Bella and I have had a busy morning already. She is now napping on the loveseat with Sierra. We walked to the marina at the end of street. Played for a bit. Then an annoying father and two kids came over and Bella and I left. When I'm "tanning" please don't try to engage me in conversation. Furthermore, I really don't get this need for chit chat. I have friends, kids and a husband to talk to. It isn't that I'm antisocial but maybe I am these days. People just annoy me lately.
Anyway, back to our busy morning...came home and swept the kitchen and decided to clean the bathroom. HATE little hairs, toothpaste and other grime in my sink and on my counters. Changed the trash because I'm the only one that can do that apparently. Scrubbed the shower doors and cleaned the toilet because I pee on the seat. I'm actually not complaining. It is just frustrating that one can't enjoy the clean for very long. It is a very used room.
I have a ton of photos to blog but feeling lazy about it right now. Want to get the kitchen organized a little and the living room floor swept. Maybe enjoy some lunch before Bella wakes up. She's actually well behaved when I clean. She likes to help.

I Love my iPhone
Why? For one, it is cooler than cool. Two, it is a travel size version of my iPad, which I love dearly. It isn't a "cell phone". I rarely use it to talk anyway. I do NOT have a land line and have not had one in about 4 years. I hate talking on the phone. Period. Always have, always will. I sext with my husband during the hours away from one another, keeping our physical attraction strong. The iPhone offers facetime, which is video calling. If you're lame enough to use an antiquated desktop to do that, than a smartphone is ahem, more productive.

My car is back!!! I haven't driven it yet, but I hope it is as good as new. I can't believe how much I missed it!
A little breezy today but nice and sunny. Sneezing up a storm for day two of allergy hell. I had to close my windows last night. Unfortunately, I had shut the air off because the house got downright chilly last night, but sometime during the middle of the night, it started roasting in there.
Laying out for a bit till my allergies chase me indoors. The wind yesterday took care of most of the yucky pollen.

This Day
This day reminds me of the many summer days when I was a kid. I could never decide if I wanted to sleep in on my first day of summer, or get up early to fully enjoy my day. I would have this same decision to make on my last full day of summer for many years till the peer pressured teen years had me convinced I wasn't normal if I didn't sleep in past 11 and take two showers per day, using two towels per shower, and spend the rest of my time in front of the mirror or working to save up money for even more school clothes.
When I was a kid though, I loved adventure. I was outside till dinnertime. When I was home, that is. I did go to summer camp and spent a lot of time out to the lake with my grandparents. But the summer days at home? Full of adventures. Like the night a bunch of motorcycle pirates invaded. My dad was a truck driver and was gone Monday through Friday, which left me and my mom watching out for the other three and my great grandmother. My mother came in to get me when about 12 Harleys pulled into the driveway. Not sure what she needed me awake for because my grandmother was the one with the gun but we watched from the window. Of course they were just tourists looking for a place to crash and my grandmother did run a bed and breakfast in the summer because that's what all the old ladies with big house in Maine did. And my grandmother, all slim 5 feet of her, had no problem putting those pirates to work the next morning.
My great-grandmother had been a widow for a long time before I met her on July 28, 1972. She was named Jennie and I was named Jennifer. She was a school teacher, K-12. She was one of the very few women to earn her masters degree from the University of Maine in the 50s. I'm a teacher and will probably BE 50 before I get my masters. Everything I know about plants and trees, edible and not, indigenous to Maine, I learned from her. She had a garden, an apple grove, which was the site of many wicked apple fights with cousins and friends, grapevines, a frog pond, maple trees, which she would have us tap in the spring (all that work for a cup of disgusting syrup), raspberry and blackberry patches, and blueberries by the tracks. Her arch nemisis lived next door. Mr. Ray Rollins. He had a cat named Precious, a rifle to keep trespassers off and owned even more land than my grandmother. They spent their days trying to one up each other.
Her husband and children may be Irish, but she was English, and she made sure we all had impeccable manners. She often told me that while I may never dine with the queen, I will know how to do it so as to not embarrass her and that she would be watching, even if she was in heaven. She also made sure we could play the piano. I can still play the songs she taught me, but the piano was so boring to me. I only tolerated it in the summer because her piano room was the coolest place during the hot summers. I preferred her books and would read and reread the same ones over and over.
When I think of her, it seemed she was never a fit for Maine, but when I try to imagine her living somewhere else, I can not. And how she ended up with my great grandfather, I can not even begin to fathom. I don't know much about him. He worked in the woods and the last time he came home, he had a massive heart attack and died. My mom was around 3 and living with them at the time.
Anyway, today reminded me of those summer days and I only wish my husband could have been around when I had all those adventures. He was a kid growing up in the town next door and while our paths crossed many many many times, we wouldn't couple up for a long time.

Thunderstorm
Thunderstorm this morning. Fine with me. And so begins impossible summer hair. Even with the air on, getting it to do what I want is next to impossible. Speaking of the air conditioner. I hate having it on. Kids and husband love it. I spend my summer freezing if I'm inside. Stores, the house, the car, work...everywhere I go, air conditioning. I'd rather be too hot than too cold.
