4/5/12

I can't believe Easter is upon us all ready! I picked up some of those plastic eggs awhile ago and Kayla and I are going to fill them with stuff Bella will actually eat...blueberries, strawberries, cut up cucumbers, some M&Ms...she's not really a sweet lover, but she does love her some candy canes!! The plan is to hide the eggs in the backyard and let her have an egg hunt. When I was growing up, we had a jelly bean hunt at Mimi and Papa's every Easter and who ever got the most jelly beans got a money prize. When my kids were growing up, my grandmother filled those plastic eggs with money and jelly beans and would have a big hunt for the kids.

Ham steaks on the grill. Probably potato salad. Deviled eggs. Some broccoli and asparagus. Asian Cole slaw. Some rolls. And DESSERT. That'll be Easter dinner. Nothing fancy.

Next week will be busy. 60 hours. I have to get myself in the right mindset to get through the week.

4/4/12

Today is going to be another long day but no Salve tomorrow night so that will be a short day, as will Friday. I got some good color yesterday while laying in the sun. Today is going to be even nicer, so hopefully I can get another hour or two in before I have to head to the committee meeting, 3-5...then work 5-8.

4/3/12

Lazy. That's the word of today. I'm feeling lazy. The sun is shining bright and it's going to be warm out there today and I'm trying to talk myself out of bed. Feeling a bit crampy and bloated. The decision would be made if it were rainy!

We just can't pass up beautiful weather, so at the very least, some little girl will play outside...maybe she will even play at the beach, but her attraction to the ocean is great. April is still a bit chilly in the water. Basically the temp of our water by the end of April is what the ocean temp is in August in Old Orchard Beach (Maine). The water really is perfect here in the summer. Refreshing, not too warm, never cold. Perfect for swimming and playing.

I'm working some crazy overtime next week. 60 hours. Plus that check will include my mileage. I'm quickly approaching 200 hours of ETO (earned time off). I need a vacation!!

Some baby girl will be turning 2 on the 21st!!! I'm hoping to get her a few more outdoor toys to make my time watching her a little more relaxing for me...a slide maybe. I was thinking a sand/water table. Honestly, we're about the length of a football field from water and a beach, but it might be nice to have something right here. I'm not opposed to buying used...my husband needs to get cracking with the craigslist. I'm also looking for two kayaks. Old Town Canoe preferably. Also looking for a jogging stroller. Her big stroller is great for all day excursions (the zoo, the fair, Block Island) because of all the storage. Heavy for a workout. Her umbrella stroller is good for quick jaunts, bus stop to bus stop, because it folds up so small and is light, but NOT appropriate for workouts. Since I'm with her so much and since I hate having my workouts interrupted, I want a jogger for my own use. Again, used is okay with me.

Off I go. Gotta start my day.

Cleaning the Stovetop

I've been putting off this chore because I can spend hours scrubbing and scraping and I've even used oven cleaner...nightmare. So today, I sprayed it with my bleach spray and then poured some baking soda over it to turn it into a paste and let it sit there till I felt like tackling it (a long time). I can't even describe my joy right now...everything came off with a minimum of elbow grease (like none). Who knew watered down bleach and baking soda would be my best friend?? So my bleach cleaner is just bleach in a spray bottle...one part bleach to two parts water, probably twenty cents and everyone has baking soda, so that was just pennies. Seriously? Have you priced oven cleaner lately? Clorox bleach spray? Both together would cost anywhere from $12-$14. Let me be clear, I would spend a LOT of money on a manufactured product if it did what is was marketed to do...when I'm scrubbing for hours to still looks dirty, that product is not working. The fact that these two common (cheap) household items not marketed for this job went above and beyond??? Big name companies had better watch out. Selling toxic waste for obscene amounts of money may seem like a great business model, but you just lost my dollar.

4/2/12

Well so far the work week has started out ok. It did last week as well and quickly took a turn for the worse by last Tuesday BUT going to put that all behind me. Candles are burning. Scentsy going in the kitchen. Windows open as well. Scrubbing the stove top. I will hopefully get to the fridge tomorrow. Bella's books and toys picked up. I made her scrambled eggs for breakfast. Now she's watching Rio with Sierra so I can sweep and mop. This will be a long day for me. I won't officially be responsibility-free till 8 tonight.

3/30/12

This has been the worst week. Just tired of a lot of things, mostly work related. Having a sick kid on top of it hasn't made things easier. At least we should get some answers regarding that by Sunday.

I think some cleaning and organizing will likely make me feel better.

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I'm feeling so much better now that I've found a few minutes to workout, shower, tan, fix my hair...I'm almost done the first book of Game of Thrones. I have around 20 pages left. I can't wait to watch season one to see who plays who and if that's who I would have cast.

3/27/12

I really don't want March to leave so quickly...at this speed, it'll be winter again before we know it!! I must figure a way to stop time. I will put that on my list of things to do. Another glorious day here in Narragansett, minus the super pain in the ass wind of yesterday. The sun was so warm yesterday, after the thunderclouds moved out, but the wind was cold.

I spent the morning catching up on fashion blogs I like to read and checked in with the Parenting online magazine where I read a blog post about a 5 year olds dress up party. Granted, the author stated this was her opinion and that she was just curious about others opinions on the subject, but sometimes I just feel like commenting with a "why"? Seriously??? I'm a woman, having been a former girl, who has happened to love every second of being a girl! I'm the mom of two girls (and a boy) and the grandmother of a GIRL! Not some androgynous being who must spend her life shying away from who she is to grow up and do what exactly? I was raised with the knowledge that I could do or be whatever I wanted to be when I grew up as long as I worked hard enough. I also grew up with my grandfather telling me every single day of my life until he passed away when I was 26, that I was the most beautiful baby he had ever seen, that I was better than any old boy and that he couldn't have been happier that his first grandchild was a girl. My girls loved dressing themselves, loved wearing my old prom dresses, Rainbow girl gowns, tons of maid of honor dresses, they loved getting into my make-up, wearing my shoes...as my sister and I loved getting into our mother's, aunts', and grandmother's things. I climbed trees, played baseball better than most boys, rode bikes, ice skated on our frog pond, roller skated EVERYWHERE, swam, dove, double dutched till my legs ached, was on the gymnastics team, was a cheerleader, and just played with my friends. Everyday. Every. Single. Day. So my point is WHY make a big deal out of little girls having a dress up birthday party? Why, why, why? We're certainly not talking Toddlers and Tiaras. We're talking about little girls who need to pretend. Now, I'm sure we all have our bugaboos when it comes to raising kids...mine are (surprisingly) NO bikinis on my babies, no Apple Bottom clothes and as much as I really wanted to get Bella that most adorable little one piece bathing suit that said Juicy across the diaper, I didn't because there are fucking weirdos out there! I said surprisingly because my dad and I had a bitter falling out when I was about 5. All my friends had bikinis and my dad was adamant on me not wearing one. My mom finally relented when I was about 9 when we realized my dad wasn't even around that much when we were swimming anyway (he was a truck driver). When my girls were older elementary school age, I felt bikinis were fine because really?? This will be the only time in their life when a two piece is ever really appropriate without body parts falling out, hanging out, etc. Enjoy that flat chest while you have it. Enjoy it when you don't, too. I guess my other point is, some kids will always push the boundaries, will always want to be or act older than they are. A dress-up party is not going to make a child turn out promiscuous. And in case anyone is wondering, my son would want his nails and toes painted right alongside his sisters and he wore his manicures proudly. He played with dolls, and trucks and castles, wore a PINK power ranger costume because it was a hand-me-down from his sisters, and will turn out to be a great dad because of all of that. I can't stand when a parent acts like their daughter isn't a girl, because they "don't want the wrong kind of message sent". What exactly is that message telling them?

Bella is going to hear every single day of my life how smart, beautiful and wonderful I think she is because that is what a good grandparent does. I can't imagine going through life and not hearing my parents or grandparents tell me I was beautiful. Or smart. Or wonderful. How incredibly sad.

3/26/12

Went to bed with a stomachache and woke up with one. Feeling better now. It was nice and sunny this morning but now dark clouds have moved in. They're moving fast though, so somebody will be getting a thunderstorm, but not so sure it'll be us.

This day has been a freaking miserable Monday so far. I would like ONE day in which I just have to take care of what I've already agreed to take care of...on Mondays that is Bella and me...I work till 8, an hour and a half of that is with Bella, then I go home, clean the house because people just keep adding to the dishes and the dirt and continue to pile up the trash in the kitchen and bathroom...three adults can't manage to take a dog out, who I'm sorry, doesn't have opposable thumbs and who happens to be at the mercy of a bunch of fucktards. I know she hasn't been out when she trips over herself to make it to the backyard in time. I have just enough time to clean, get myself and Bella ready and head out to go back to work, and part of this work includes taking an individual to doctor's appointments which happen to not be negotiable. I'm so tired of talking, yelling, and threatening. I'm tired of a million texts and phone calls. If it isn't my family, it is work. Seriously. Leave me alone.

So tomorrow is Tuesday. Tuesday is set aside for Bella, Sierra and me. My phone will be off till I have to be at work.

Workout done, tanning done...watching The Muppet Movie and then Hugo, also finishing Game of Thrones. Zach wants to read it next. Pretty lazy Sunday. Pretty lazy weekend for that matter.

3/23/12

What a great workout I just had!! I love it when I get that burst of energy when I'm almost done and then I push it even further! I worked up a great sweat and don't feel as lazy as I did when I first woke up! I got woken up around 7 and decided I'd try to go back to sleep, which I did, but then woke up after 9:30...that's late for me. I wasn't feeling terribly energetic either and I really had to talk myself into working out. Glad I did!!!

Other than my very late start, I'm feeling pretty good. Still loving the weather! Another 70 degrees today. It'll be in the 60s the next 5 days or so, so I guess it's back to a typical spring for us. Loving all the flowers and budding trees.

I'm really getting into Game of Thrones! The first 30 or so pages I felt like I might have made a poor choice, but was determined to give it a solid try. So glad I did! LOVING it!! Thanks to Scott, I have the first three books to read and the others (I think there are five) I will get on my Kindle. So I'm a new fan of George R. R. Martin.

Ok, it is now noon and I really have to get a move on if I want to get an ab workout in and go tanning. Picking up David at 2 to run a few errands then home to enjoy my husband!

3/22/12

March has flown right by. Granted life's been busy. I'm still pretty tired from my incredibly long day yesterday. And when I'm tired, I'm forgetful and now I'm remembering all the little things that may or may not have gotten done at work. I'm usually the person who double checks to make sure the other person didn't forget anything and will do it if they have, and of course I didn't get around to that so I'm having a blah morning because of that. Sometimes you just don't want to hear about all the stuff that didn't get done and so I'm waiting for the text or phone call...

I need to focus on good things...like The Hunger Games movie tomorrow!! And the nice Spring we've been having. So I'm going to say a little prayer and let God take care of the rest.

I'm going to work out, tan, read a little, then go to work. Home tonight at 9, then I'm off through the weekend.

I'm going to make some coffee and get my day started.

3/20/12

Beautiful day! I worked out, tanned, spent some more time outside reading and watching Bella play. It really doesn't get much better than this, unless it's a day at the beach or the lake!

I hope to go to sleep early tonight and get some good rest before I have to be up at 5 tomorrow morning. It'll be an early start and a late finish but then the downward slide begins! Hopefully I won't be rudely awakened again at 2 am by a bunch of party animals in the back yard!!

Happy Spring!

I completed an hour of cardio and an awesome ab workout. Now I'm going to hop in the shower before Kayla leaves and it's just me and Bella. I will maybe take her to the park later. Really feeling like I just want to be a homebody today though so we will have to play it by ear.

3/19/12

It's Monday!! Geez, it comes around so fast! Mondays are early days for Bella and me. I'm hoping we get outside this morning. Very very nice out. She's yawning already though and it isn't even 9 am yet. It is going to hopefully be an early night for us. I'm running on about 3 1/2 hours of sleep.

I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. My rating of it improved. I think the story is a powerful one, yet I'm interested in hearing it from an actual woman from Afghanistan. I'm not saying the author didn't do a fine job, but I am saying that these women had no power, no voice, no choice during the Taliban reign and it is virtually impossible for a man, even one living alongside these women, to truly grasp their circumstance. I'm curious as to how many of the women's true stories will come to print, since education was outlawed for women during the Taliban occupancy, and even before the Taliban, education wasn't an option for every woman.

I'm now starting Game of Thrones.

TOMS

So pathetic that a new pair of cute shoes can make me this giddy! ;) They are just so stinking cute! TOMS, if you don't already know thanks to the amount of press Angelina Jolie gets when her kids wear them, is a shoe company that gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair you purchase. It is a business model that could and should be copied. They also sell eyeglasses and match the purchase of those as well. Next up will be a pair of TOMS cordones. Love them and would like them in either a grey chambrey or denim, or both! (Just in case my husband wants to shower me with gifts!) I think my husband is just glad for once I like a pair of shoes for under $150!!

Hayley and Zach have company for the weekend. Maybe a fire in the fire pit tonight! :)

Tomorrow, while my husband ditches me for a few hours, I'm going to workout, go tanning and then get ready for our day/night of togetherness! I'm so much happier these last few weeks because we've been managing to actually have time together! Only problem is that it makes me want even more time! When we don't have to worry about conflicting schedules, bills, or taking turns being sick, we actually have a lot of fun together. We can both become very resentful when we have to share our precious few hours of alone time with anyone or anything else. Life's short and we love being together.

3/16/12

I'm about 1/2 way through A Thousand Splendid Suns. I guess I would say I enjoyed The Kite Runner more up to this point, but it's still a good story. I don't want to imagine being forced into an arranged marriage, being owned like property, having to wear ridiculous clothes that get in the way of everything, and pumping out kids just to perpetuate this cycle. What I enjoy are the same rights everyone should be allowed to enjoy. When I awaken every morning, ultimately I'm doing what I want, within reason. Do I want to work? Not really, but I do enjoy buying what I want when I want. I enjoy our clean living conditions, clean water for drinking and bathing, fresh food in our supermarkets with money to buy it, a closet full of clothes and a husband who would never say no to anything I really wanted and instead would say, "we'll find a way." The bottom line is I CAN work, I DO work, and if I really didn't want to, my husband would find a way to make it happen. I have an education that many of us take for granted because even today, it's an opportunity that some never get. So maybe I'm not enjoying A Thousand Splendid Suns like The Kite Runner because this story is from a woman's perspective and I want to jump through the pages a throttle a few people.

In other news, my weekend has started! We've hired a new girl who we all think can handle the particular circumstances at our location just fine and I might just be able to take some time off!! I am looking forward to a bigger check next pay period with all the crazy overtime! Plus my mileage will be included in the next one too.

It's only going to be in the 50s today but starting tomorrow, a week long of 60/70 degree weather!! And NO staff meetings!!!

Thursday, March 15, 2012

3/15/12

Loving this early spring!! 60s and 70s all next week too! I think I'm going to wear a skirt today. I'm so glad it's a short day at work. So glad that I have tomorrow off!!! I am running a bit behind schedule today, so I'm going to have to hop in the shower now if I want to have time to do my hair.

I'm definitely NOT tired. I feel achy and stiff from laying in one spot all night and a bit shaky because my blood sugar is low from not eating for 16 hours.

Time to get a move on.

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

3/14/12

Crazy warm today!! I was locked out of work this afternoon, so I spent 2 hours out on the deck...got LOTS of color today!

I am so tired and can't wait to be home in my bed! Two more hours. However, the hill is climbed and I'm on the downward slide now!! The week went by fast!

I'm going to sleep in tomorrow, workout at a good pace and not have to rush, go tanning and just plain enjoy my day!

I'm watching American Idol and trying hard to stay awake for two more hours.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Ahhhhhh

My busiest part of my day is over. The meeting took forever! Why you ask? Because the computer at work is a windows operating POS. And I've requested and was granted permission to use my personal MacBook, even though it's highly classified information. Thank the good Lord! I could actually probably use my iPhone with better success than that Dell, because yeah, it's just that awesome.

So anyway, big points with the boss because I'm so computer savvy. And of course, because of all the extra hours I'm putting in. I'm also thinking of bar-tending one night a week for some extra cash. We'll see. Typically with a poor economy, it is suggested you DON'T get a second job, unless it's highly lucrative because come tax season, you're screwed every which way, so like I said, we will see.

3/13/12

Chicken on the grill last night, put into a very yummy salad. It was really good. Yesterday was an easier day and even though it was a Monday, and I usually hate Mondays, I am so thankful for an easy day. Today will be hellish. I have a stupid meeting at 10, which means I'm now bringing Kayla to work at 1:30 so I don't have to bring Bella to the meeting, back to get David, turn around and head BACK to Providence, pick up Hayley on the way home, get Zach at 5:30, and be at work myself at 8 for the overnight. Home from work at 7 am Wednesday, meeting 11-1, and then work 3-10. Thursday will be easy because Salve is on Spring Break, and I have Fridays off again! I guess I'd rather have 2 busy days in the middle of the week and have restful weekends and Mondays.

I currently have my bedroom window open and the birds are chirping away. It's overcast and humid right now but I'm loving it because it makes it smell like spring/summer out there! And really, if I'm working and driving all day, I'd hate for it to be a beach day!

I'm hoping to squeeze in some tanning today. Have I mentioned how much I don't want to go to this meeting today? Oh well, the sooner I start my day, the sooner it'll be over. I read a Deepak tweet yesterday that said something like, we spend all our lives thinking about the past and the future, and so what we're living is a dream till enlightenment. Kind of depressing. I do spend an enormous amount of time thinking (worrying) about the future. When I actually get a minute, I will contemplate this more.

I finished A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Immigrants in Brooklyn did not have an easy time of it pre-WW1. I'm sure immigrants don't have an easy time of it, in any period, even today. Thankful to all my Irish ancestors and what they had to go through to get me to where I am today. Thankful for my French ancestry as well. Pretty wild to think about the different areas my ancestral tree branches started out and quite simply the fact that they could possibly even converge at all. Only in America!

Next up, I guess, will be A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Husseini author of The Kite Runner, as I'm STILL waiting for Scott to bring me Games of Thrones. I may just break down and buy it for my Kindle. I'm saving Stephen King's latest for my Kindle beach read. Thoroughly looking forward to reading my Kindle on the beach. No pages flipping around on you, no hand cramps trying to keep the book in a position so as to not leave a tan mark.

Best news?? Only TEN days till The Hunger Games!!! Can not wait!!!

3/12/12

Feels so nice to wear shorts and flip-flops! That stinking wind is gone now. It ruined two otherwise beautiful days. The birds are out, buds are budding, grass is turning green again and the days are getting longer!

I have to shave my legs, get my workout in, and then Bella and I are going to hang at the beach for a bit. Not sure how this will go down because she loves the water. I don't mind her playing in it but we have to be in NK for 3...I guess I will just bring her change of clothes.

Sunday, March 11, 2012

3/11/2

Crazy overtime this week!! At least I was able to spend most of the day with my husband today. Bella and I are hitting the beach tomorrow! It'll be sooooo nice!

Headed to bed. It's going to be an early start tomorrow.

Friday, March 09, 2012

3/9/12

Worst cramps ever. Tempted to stay in bed all day.

Thursday, March 08, 2012

3/8/12

Not sure why my husband's side of the bed is always full of crumbs!! :)

This wind can stop at anytime. Geez. Talk about ruin a warm sunny day!! The buds are sprouting and I love seeing the daffodils getting ready to flower.

The "news" was a nightmare yesterday...a girl won $1,000,000 lottery AND still continued to collect welfare..."Well, I was expecting them to shut me off and they didn't!" Ummm, well you NEED to report it you lunatic. It says right in the contract that you signed. When asked if she thought she deserved this welfare money she said, "Well, yeah, kinda, because I don't have a job." Excuse me? So people like me are busting our asses to not get ahead so you can not work, have kids, play the lottery and win and you think you STILL deserve our help? "Well, it wasn't a million, it was like $700,000 because I took the lump sum and then it ended up to be about $500,000 after taxes." Oh, sorry, my mistake.

I also heard something come out of Sarah Palin's mouth that made me wish I'd have taken up sniper shooting as an elective...in her defense response of d-bag Rush Limbaugh, "those leftist wackos make fun of handicaps..." I stopped listening, with my mouth open in horror. Did she just say that? DID she just say that? This is not golf, you lunatic! Your baby boy is not a handicap. We do NOT call people with disabilities handicaps, cripples, retards. ARE YOU SERIOUS???

I am only going to say one thing about Kirk Cameron. Kirk has a right to his own opinions and should actually be admired for having the courage to say what those opinions are after being ASKED. If you don't want to hear my reply, don't ask the question! That being said, MY opinion is that I really wish people with such deep hatred of anyone or any group would stop using the Christian title. I love Jesus. How could one man who was so loving and kind and gentle attract so many lunatics? "Many will come in my name..." Rush, Kirk, Sarah...you are the people Jesus warned me about!

Tanning is My Drug

Michelle Obama can kiss my tan ass with her tanning tax. Bitch please. She can also take her mini size Happy Meal French fries and "apple" slices with her. I wouldn't call them apples because I found some abandoned ones in my car (thanks Bella) and they were rather too well-preserved to be real apples. What's unfortunate is that my kids and I would SHARE a Happy Meal when they were little and now the size of the fries doesn't make that an option. And here's a news flash...I don't go to McDonalds for a healthy meal! I go because sometimes life is shitty...effing ridiculous taxes, budget cuts, gold in my gas tank, and sometimes good old Ronald McDonald can make life better. Albeit briefly. As can Jack Daniels. But I digress.

My point is, fat people aren't fat because McDonalds exists. They're fat because they can buy Twinkies with foodstamps. Duh. See what I did there? I stereotyped all poor people as fat. I also stereotyed all fat people as Twinkie lovers, too! Just like she has with her healthy fast food... So basically all people (who aren't the first family of course) abuse their kids by pouring cokes and Happy Meals down their kids' throats because they aren't smart or energetic enough to cook from the four basic food groups.

Here's the deal...my husband and I work long hours at mentally stressful jobs, when I'm not at work, I watch Bella so my daughter can work long hours at a physically laborious job, so she can take care of her child (and still not make enough to move out on her own) I pay bills, I pay taxes, I READ to Bella every spare second I have that isn't spent on personal upkeep (working out/tanning, etc), I buy mostly all organic foods, we're college educated and if I want to buy my kid a flipping Happy Meal, it really is none of the goverment's, or anybody else's business! By the way, we're also insured, through no help from our government. If they were going to pay for my healthcare, then maybe I wouldn't complain about a tanning tax or a laughably sized Happy Meal.

Don't even get me started on the Republicans. Can we just have a common sense political party?

3/7/12

I really wish I didn't agree to working today...I went through some off my clothes...underwear, socks, skirts...hopefully I can be all done that project by this weekend.

I'm going tanning today!!! I didn't go at all last week because I was so sick, then when I felt like it, of course my schedule couldn't accommodate it. Good news is I'm all done my paperwork so I don't have that looming over me tomorrow. I can actually enjoy the beautiful weather before I have to leave for Salve.

Last Year

This week last year, Kayla started her new job! A year ago tomorrow actually! Bella had short hair and was cutting teeth. I had just returned to full-time status. We made some yummy cake pops. The golf team was gearing up for Zach.

Little did I know a month later, major vehicle issues would arise, as would an income tax pay-in from Hell, they would give me trouble about my mileage reimbursement, and I would be looking at a barebones skeleton crew at work for the rest of that year.

Well THIS week, we still have a barebones skeleton crew. I'm still working out. Bella has long hair now and is NOT teething! I'm overtime status, haha, as I can't even remember a week when I've had "regular" hours. My car is running pretty darn well and I hope it maintains.

3/6/12

Feeling better physically. I did a great ab workout yesterday. I've had no desire to use those muscles since I've been sick. I'm going to do one of my videos today. I'm hoping the workout and some good music will snap me out of my funk.

I need a beach day. I'm thinking Thursday will be the best opportunity for that. I'm now scheduled for 46 hours this week and next. Blah! Late nights every night this week. Last night, 7:30. Gone tonight. Tomorrow night, 10. Thursday night, 9. Friday, OFF!!

Bella's idea of fun is a lot like Sid's on Toy Story.

Ahhhhhhhh!

Sometimes her dolls fall down the staircase, take an unfortunate plunge out an attic window, or go for slide down the roof!

Break Time

Things are coming along nicely around here. Floors swept and mopped. Again. I need to get some shower cleaner. And some scented oil for my Glade plugins. Poor Bella is exhausted but I won't sit down long enough so she will take a nap. If I stop now, I will crash. It's too long of a day for me to crash this early! 45 hours this week and that is with me taking a shift off. 45 hours next week too! I am long overdue for a nice vacation!

3/5/12

I slept like crap!!! Up till midnight and awake every hour after till 4. Bella's had an early start as well, so hopefully an early nap for her. I won't be home till 7:45ish tonight. Blech!

I finished Rasputin's Daughter in one day. Good book!! I'm finishing A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I'm about 1/2 way through. I started it before I got my Kindle and it kind of fell to the wayside, so I'm going to finish it before starting anything else on my list.

Work is incredibly WEIRD right now. Another house manager has stepped down. Another staff person in our house has quit...this one on their first real first day (not training). Crazy crazy crazy...soooooo, there may be some business opportunities on the horizon for me, whether I'm interested or not. We will see. Potentially, that would be almost doubling my paycheck. I haven't been interested in the slightest, since I've worked for the company, and I'm still really not interested in more duties and responsibilities, but the extra money would be nice.

I'm drinking a lovely cup of coffee and I'm going to get things picked up a little around here. It's not in terrible shape as I've done nothing but clean since everyone has been sick!! Just Bella's toys and of course, I have to sweep. Sweeping and mopping is a never-ending chore. Good thing I don't really mind it.

Ahhhhhhh, I'm wearing one of two new bras. Nothing is poking or pinching or all stretched out. And it was an interesting story. My husband and I shop at Kohls enough that they send email deals fairly regular. I usually ignore them and never thought of buying my bras there, as I have always bought my bras at Macy's, during their buy 2 get one free sale. Kohls had a similar sale, buy one get one half off, and I discovered they carried my brands AND I had an additional 15% off coupon code, plus there would be free shipping if you spent $50. It gets interesting because the total without the 15% off was like $58, with Free shipping. With the 15% off, it brought the total below $50 and then they added $8 for shipping!!! Uh, not really a deal. So I checked the clearance rack and found the most adorable Paul Frank pajamas for Bella, added them to my shopping cart...now this is the best part, by buying MORE, it brought my total down to $52! Still qualified for the free shipping and I got those $30 pjs for Bella for just about $3! Anyway, I ordered them over a week ago and I'm just glad I am finally wearing a new bra.

I'm slowly returning to the and of the living. My stomach still has its moments, and the cold (allergies?) that I was dealing with before the stomach bug is still lingering...draining mostly, causing a tickly throat, dry cough, head/nose/ear congestion and LOTS of sneezing!!

Just watched a depressing infomercial from Feed the Children regarding starving children in America. Grateful for what we have. I'm also grateful my husband and I are both the kind of people who would work several jobs each to make ends meet if we had to. I don't understand people who don't work who could or should be working. Spare me the "nobody's hiring" spiel. My husband and I would take second jobs at a fast food place if we had to! He, with his MBA and me with my BS. I would have another job if I wasnt watching Bella for Kayla so she can work full time. Anyway...feel bad for the kids who have to go without because of their parents.

I have to sit down after any kind of exertion this morning. I know I'm dehydrated and have had little food the last few days but whatever I seem to get into me comes right back out. Guess it's back to sipping some green tea.

3/1/12

So glad for March and SO glad that we didn't get any snow! There were some flakes but the melted on the rain soaked ground and then turned into all rain.

I found a quick way to drop some pesky pounds...severe intestinal virus. Feel like a new woman today but from 5:15 yesterday morning till 7:30 last night I was in great distress. Yes, that was how I spent my Leap Year...knew I hated that day for a reason! It has now gone through our entire household, so goodbye and good riddance. Highlights of the event were Zach wrapped up in his Yankee snuggie and couldn't get up fast enough...tons of blue raspberry slushy vomit everywhere! Oh well, bought him another day off from school, which he can't afford, but I can't send him till it's been 24 hours since he last puked. If other parents abided by the rule there may not be so much sickness around. What I hate most of all are the bizarre dreams and hallucinations. What a long day and night it was!

I'm currently nursing a 1/2 cup of coffee, as I chose wisely and had none yesterday but I had a headache from Hell because of it and I'm also drinking some green tea. Still not really feeling hungry yet.

And Soooo

I guess I've joined the ranks of educators and psychologists who study, monitor, diagnose and test their offspring and offspring's offspring! ;)

CAS

And lest you may think I'm over-worrying about Bella in my last post, all three of my children were diagnosed with varying degrees of Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Bella has all symptoms of what you would find in a very young child suffering from it, including the difficulty swallowing and hypersensitivity in her mouth.

2/28/12

Today SHOULD be the last of February but since it's Leap Year...come on Spring!

My husband brought home a chocolate cake celebrating the 3000th blog post. It was quite yummy and gone before I could take a picture.

I hope the wind has died down as I'd like to get out and enjoy this 50 degree weather. Maybe the beach or at the very least, a walk in the neighborhood.

I was reading some homeschooling blogs and catching up on some Montessori methods I've long subscribed to but oh my some people...who has the space for a million ugly baskets to put teeny tiny items in? As a former preschool teacher, and former director of a learning center, I also utilized containers labeled with like items but some of these bloggers take it to a crazy extreme. Most of the posts seem more focused on where I can find the "cute" (ugly, IMO) basket.

My purpose for reading the blogs was to keep up with new ideas and revisit the tried and true. Both of my girls had pretty significant learning disabilities so their education was wrapped up in a nice IEP bow. As a student, I was considered advanced. I could read by age 4, and was immediately placed in a second grade reading class in kindergarten. There were two others like me that year, David and Alyson and we're still friends!!! Crazy to think about! But I digress. So my girls disabilities were difficult for me to understand in the beginning. I just couldn't figure out why some things were so hard for them, as i never had to think about my own learning process. I would read a book about something and it would lie in my memory for the rest of ever. Long story short, I think they helped me become a more patient and more
thorough teacher. Enter Bella. I see strong similarities in our learning processes. She understands what you tell her , will follow commands, knows her body parts, recognizes some letters, loves music and LOVES to be read to. She's also developing strong motor skills and will kick, throw, run, chase, dance, jump...especially if a ball is in the vicinity. Fine motor skills and articulation are some areas to be desired. She talks all day long, you just can't understand most of it and the rate of food staying on her fork or spoon through the short journey to her mouth is low. Though the rate of food staying on a utensil to the short journey to the dog's mouth is extremely high. I'm not super worried as she won't even be 2 till the end of April but she seems so advanced in other areas (manipulation, for one), I think our expectation is that she should be talking better. So I'm looking for actual enunciation activities as opposed to vocabulary activites. She has a strong vocabulary as evidenced by her understanding of what is spoken to her. And she definitely understands the finer points of body language, with her hand on her hip, Jerry Springer show head wobble and her wagging finger when she's telling you off!

3000th!!!

I just surpassed my 3000th post. Not bad I guess since I've been on Blogger since 2004! Wish I felt more like celebrating! We had a fantastic supper at IHop Friday night. I know, IHop and fantastic in the same sentence! Their strawberry and banana crepes and cinna-stack pancakes were to DIE for!! My kind of supper is any kind that is served with whipped cream!

Mitch and Kayla have had some kind of stomach bug. Bella and I are standing strong! I'm cleaning like crazy today and have been sanitizing like a mad woman since Saturday, just in case I'm not already harboring the virus.

Bella and I are currently watching...wait for it..Rio. Yet again. I've had an incredibly early morning. I fell asleep early but woke up at 11:30 thinking the clock said 1:30, then fell back to sleep till I was rudely awakened at 3, at which point I laid their till I had to get up at 5. Blah. Tonight will be an easy light dinner that won't be miserable puking back up, in case I DO get this stupid bug. I haven't puked in over 5 years and will be sad to see my winning streak end!

2/24/12

TWO HOURS of cardio today AND a Tabata circuit...and a full ab workout yesterday and today. Full of energy this morning!!!

Happy Birthday to Kayla!! I can't do Chinese again this week so I suggested IHoP to have breakfast for dinner. This was met with a smile because she always requests breakfast for dinner as her birthday dinner when we spend it with my mom.

I'm going to relax for just a bit and then hop in the shower.

2/23/12

The weather is crazy for a February! Typical for a March though, which is only one short week away! Clocks change March 11th and we already have early morning birds around here but they're not as annoying as they soon will be in 2 or 3 weeks when their friends show up! It is certainly sounding, smelling and feeling like spring!

I suppose I have to get a move on, even though laying in my bed with my windows open is feeling pretty luxurious right now.

Long Day

What a long day but I got everything accomplished that I set out to do. Zach treated me to takeout from Chen's for supper tonight. Bella was asleep in bed by 7:30 pm. She was exhausted from playing all afternoon with her friends. Now I'm relaxing!!! Zach went to Derek's for the night. Mitch and Kayla won't be home till 10:30. What to do what to do! I'm drinking some green tea and listening to some tunes. Playing some Words with Friends. Maybe I will read.

2/22/12

I got my workout in AND I feel like I'm going to puke...that's how they say you know you're doing the Tabatas right...so go me! I'm still fine tuning what works best for me...Tabatas everyday kills my motivation. This week, I'm doing an hour of cardio plus two Tabata circuits every other day but yesterday my mood was more down because it wasn't a workout day. I guess on my day off days, I could do just Tabatas or just an hour of cardio to keep my mood stable.

I have to jump in the shower, go tanning, get gas, drop Kayla and Bella off, pick up David, go to Burlington Coat Factory, pick Bella back up, figure out dinner for me, Bella and Zach and then go to bed!!! Kayla's birthday is Friday so maybe Chinese dinner and cake?

2/21/12

Today Bella is 22 months old. Can't believe how quickly two years has flown by! I can't believe we're still in this house. 6-10 weeks till that changes. I can't believe I still have the same job! 5 years! It is now the longest time I've spent at one job and this isn't even one I love. I don't hate it and it pays reasonably well for my demands but I have been so lucky to have jobs that I've LOVED! The preschool. The Learning Center. The gym. While I don't love the job, I do love the people I work with so I guess it all evens out.

I had a meeting this morning, fed Zach and Bella lunch, went tanning and I'm now trying to get her to take a nap. I'm going to get my workout in. Clean up around here a little. Bella has a play date tomorrow with Cindy's grandkids so it'll be a nice break. She asked if Bella could come over anyway, even though we didn't need her to watch her this week, so she could keep her granddaughter company. I guess they're the same age. It'll be fun for her!!

2/15/12

I'm so unbelievably exhausted. I'm also so glad I took Friday off!!! Couldn't decide tonight between a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, so I'm drinking both! Hopefully they cancel each other out! I have to pick up more yarn this weekend. My lap afghan is coming along excellently! I'm also sure I will finish TGWKTHN this weekend and then I will buy some more books for my Kindle with the Amazon gift card I got for Valentine's. It is going to be in the 50s for the next 5 days or so. Exactly two weeks till March!

Monday, February 13, 2012

2/13/12

The eve of my favorite holiday, except for the Fourth of July! I have to buy some Valentine's today. Right now I'm watching Bambi with Bella. We've had a very early morning!!! I got one workout in and I'm thinking about getting my other one in while I still have the energy to do it. I already did my ab workout. The problem is I stayed up watching the Grammy's and then The Walking Dead and have been awake since 4:20 am, so I give myself till around 3 or 4 before I crash, earlier if I can't keep busy.

Now I have to figure out what Bella and I are going to wear today. It is already almost 10. We have to leave here at 2 so that gives me time to get another workout in, pick up a little and make us some lunch and get ready.

2/12/12

It will be a busy Monday thru Wednesday. Funny how quick it comes around. I had a nice weekend with my husband. Got some shopping in and had Chinese Friday night. Tonight I'm watching the Grammy's. Losing Whitney Houston has just been such a downer this weekend. I guess I had her classified in the "managing the cocaine addiction" category.

I've started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest...the last book in the trilogy. I will be sad to see it end. The second book was phenomenal. It is unfortunate they made the first book into the movie. This was definitely a Dan Brown's The Davinci Code case in which the second book was made into the movie first.

2/10/12

I think I *may* buy some new bras this weekend. Don't know if I will feel like it or not but I do need some as I only have two that really like. I didn't workout at all yesterday, but I got a lot of other things accomplished. My body was still hurting as of this morning and that was after one circuit of Tabata and an additional 30 minutes of cardio on Wednesday. Today I did the 4 minutes with the hope that I will get in another circuit tonight or 30 minutes of cardio. I wanted to do two circuits in a row but I felt like I was getting very lightheaded. I literally feel like I have done a complete hour long cardio workout after the four minutes except I am even more out of breath after the Tabata than the hour long workout. The scale is going down, so I'm satisfied.

I won't be home till 9 tonight, but the weekend off is nice and then I have 3 day weekends the next two weeks in a row and another one on March 9. I have over 120 hours of ETO and I really need a break and I think the next two weekends will do it. Eddie Money is in Atlanic City I think next weekend. Tickets are like $10. I haven't talked myself out of it yet! Hahaha.

2/9/12

I slept pretty well last night. Up at 9 this morning. I have to be in Jamestown for 2 so if I want to workout and tan and shower, I'm going to have to get on the ball. It is going to be in the fifties today and tomorrow. Loving this weather! February is flying by. I'm going to say 4 weeks till an actual real beach day. For me, that is at least 70, no breeze, just warm sun and hot sand. Anything warmer than that and it's hard to just lay in the sun without being able to get in the water to cool down and that part of a beach day is still 3 months away.

2/8/12

What a long long long day!!! So glad it is over!

So this 4 Minute workout has led me to Tabata, which has had me reading reviews and about actual results, which is what I'm interested in, and this all led me to an informative site...Tabata protocol or something. I read up on the history, invented/discovered by a guy with the last name of Tabata, who was training Japanese speed skaters. It essentially is interval training, however the entire circuit is 4 minutes long. Basically you can do any cardio exercise at your maximum output for 20 seconds, rest 10, at it again for 20, etc till the 4 minutes are up. It was also suggested to do it before your regular cardio because of the after burn effect and it will make whatever you do after that more effective but you don't have to do an additional workout after the 4 minutes. You can also use this method with resistance training. Same 20 secs on, 10 off. Tonight I used the recumbent bike and completed the circuit and did an additional 30 minutes of cardio. I will leave it up to you to do your own Internet search on the scientific theory behind it...it does seem valid.

Of course you can follow along with my results here. I've done it now three days in a row. I may end up just doing the Tabata every other day and continue with my other cardio, which I feel offers more benefits than just fat loss and increased metabolism...it's cheap therapy, as this is where, when and how I do my best thinking, increases my seratonin better than any SSRI, and is just all around fun. Tabata is not exactly fun but you do feel like SOMETHING is happening.

In other news, there's a good chance we WON'T be paying $4000 into the government for income taxes this year. I have little sympathy for any of my family and friends crying poverty right now. Last March/April this middle class family had to come up with $4000 for taxes and another $4700 for a major car repair, PLUS several hundred dollars in car rentals, and still had to manage paying $800-ish in car payments, full coverage insurance on three vehicles, $1500 for housing, food for the family, cell phone/Internet bills, not to mention gas and other incidentals. And we survived without asking for help from anyone other than maybe God. Okay, most definitely God. It still infuriates me when I think of the amount of money that had to be spent in those 4 weeks, because I promise you, I would much rather spend $4000 ON MY OWN FAMILY than having to dish it out. Okay so done with that conversation. This is a new year and my husband and I have taken the necessary precautions and will thoroughly enjoy spoiling our own family.

Tuesday, February 07, 2012

I accomplished quite a bit today! Two hours of cardio, the 4 minute workout, vacuumed the couches and all the tile as pesky dirt can hide in the grout lines if all you ever do is sweep and all I ever do is sweep. White cupboards were bleached clean. Dishes washed, dried and put away. Trash dealt with. Thursday will probably be the day I scrub the oven and the fridge. Bella and I also read a lot of books, watched some movies, worked on our alphabet (she loves the letter Z), sang a lot of songs and danced around.

I had a nice conversation with Zach and signed some papers for more vaccinations...my feathers get ruffled when laws are passed forcing certain vaccinations, but instead of a battle, I'm letting him get the meningitis vaccination because it is a deadly disease and if that is one less thing I need to worry about then ok. Plus, like I told him, if he does join the Air Force or Air National Guard, then he'll need a bazillion shots before he can leave the country anyway. So crazy to think he's 18 on May 12th. Whatever he does, Bella will be sure to miss her Uncle Dada.

2/7/12

I got my first hour of cardio in. Yesterday I tried the 4 minute workout. Not sure if I'm buying into it although I do feel there are some truths behind the science of it...my biggest disbelief is that you actually burn MORE calories in four minutes than an hour long run. There are more positive reviews on the net than not, so I am giving it the good old, old school try. I mean really, what can an additional 4 minute workout hurt on top of my 2 hours of cardio. The workout is comprised of 20 seconds of squat thrusts, high knees, mountain climbers, and jumping jacks, with ten seconds of rest in between exercises. Basically it is said that if you feel as if you want to puke after completion, you've done it correctly. I DID feel as if I injured something, but no puking feeling. Supposedly, it increases metabolism for the next 36 hours as well. Like I said, it's only 4 additional minutes. At my age, heart health is on my radar, so I will continue with my 1-2 hours of cardio per day. I really don't want to have to deal with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or disgusting clogged arteries, not to mention just getting plain old fat!

Bella's watching Rio for the 100th time. At least it isn't Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which I can now fully recite. I'm going to straighten up things around here and get another workout in. It is so nice out today. Yesterday was 52 but quite breezy, so I will probably open some windows for a bit and let some fresh air in and stale winter air out. Tomorrow will be a bit busy. I'm home at 7am, gonna cram in a workout, get ready so I can drop Kayla and Bella off at Cindy's at 10:30, staff meeting for me 11-1, back to Gansett to tan, pick up David at 2, run our errands and pick Bella up at Cindy's on our way back home. Not as busy as Monday was, but hectic nonetheless...

Monday, February 06, 2012

Bella looks awfully cute today. She is sooooo tired! I'm guessing she wasn't prepared for such an early morning this morning!! She's getting ready for her nap and I'm going to try very hard to NOT take a nap myself.

I switched my Scentsy wax in the warmer today. I had cranberry mango in there. Smelled good, just not very strong. Right now, I have Mediterranean Spa in there. Not liking it so much. Smells a bit old lady-ish. I liked Echo, but SO strong. I was getting headaches from it. The Scentsy scents I like, I really like. I'm a loyal Yankee candle fan and the majority of their candles, whether I like a scent or not, are strong enough to scent up a very large area. With Scentsy, I find some scents are too strong, while others don't even register. But like I said, the scents that are neither too strong or too mild and that appeal to me, I really like. I also LOVE the $5 price tag on the wax. Definitely better than the hefty price tag on the Yankee candles, which is why I take advantage of their buy 2, get 2 free sales, or their buy 2, get one free if I'm running low. They also usually offer free shipping on orders $50 or more. A positive for Scentsy is the fact I can leave the burners on all day or all night. Light bulbs are a buck. I could never leave a candle burning.

I have to bleach down the counters and wash the floor. Anything to keep me awake. Definitely going to bed early tonight!!

2/6/12

I can't believe it is Monday already! Bella had super fun at work this morning. Glad it went so smoothly. I'm running on 4 1/2 hours of sleep. The floors have been swept and the dishes done. Trash/wine bottles taken care of AND took the dog out. I could bitch about the disaster like Renee on Mob Wives but I will hold off. However things will be changing soon. If Zach is unavailable Sierra and the trash will NOT wait for him, because quite frankly, I seem to be able to clean up a lot of messes that I don't create or that I'm not responsible for and I expect that everyone will help ME out when Zach is unavailable. It will not "teach" him a lesson, but it WILL piss me off if something like a tower of trash is left for me. If it needs to be done, do it. Another change will be quite simple, after a person had cooked something, all dishes will be rinsed immediately. I'm done dealing with dried disgusting food caked onto dishes and pans. One more rule, I refuse to be scrubbing counters forever. If you dribble or spill, I expect the mess to be wiped immediately. Same goes for the floors. This isn't directed at any one person. I do appreciate when help is given. I do not feel like I should have to hear "but it's not my chore" from adults.

2/4/12

Once I'm up, I feel about as good as I'm going to and as the day wears on, I either have a coughing fit or I get all stuffed up, headachy and feverish, or all of the above. The first night I took Nyquil, second night nothing, last night Nyquil. Seriously make up my mind. Bella still has the snotty nose but she's in good spirits. Good spirits for an almost two year old that is.

The next 9 Mondays are going to be busy for Bella and me. I'm looking forward to them because I like a change once in awhile and they free up my weekends; however, once beach season is official, I do not want to be working Monday days...I leave the weekends at the beach to the tourists and enjoy my weekdays there...still quite a few tourists on vacation but not nearly as many as the weekend brings. It truly is amazing at how our peaceful little town transforms during summer. Such is life on the ocean I suppose. Have to take the good with the bad. But man, the bad is BAD! Summer traffic from Hell. Imagine about 500,000+ people converging in your town every weekend. 5 of the state's State beaches are in our town, not including Town beach, which is supposed to be local only, and our various private beaches, one of which is the one I frequent when not at Scarborough beach. Crazy town. But the beaches and parking are roomy and once you get there, they are well worth the visit.

As you can tell, I'm super excited for that first beach day. I have to think of something exciting to do with my husband today. First, I'm going to attempt to workout, then shower, then who knows. I've lost more weight this week than past weeks, and I've only been able to do an hour of cardio per day. Doesn't make much sense but as long as the scale keeps going down, I'm happy. Maybe it's because I'm drinking 4-5 12 ounce cups of green tea per day with this cold and drinking at least two cups of grapefruit juice?? Both are known to increase metabolism significantly. Well, the day is wasting.

I'm well into The Girl Who Played with Fire. Really liking it! So glad I decided to read the series! Mitch finished The Hunger Games last night. Such a wonderful book. So last night, I watched Shark Night. What a stupid movie!

I definitely have some chest congestion this morning. It certainly isn't the worst cold I've ever had, but it certainly is an annoyance with my workout schedule. I've only done one hour of cardio everyday instead of the two or two and a half I do. Bella has the runny nose and the sneezing but she's in good spirits and is sleeping well. I'm so grateful she's such a healthy kid and not sickly in the least. This is her first cold and she's a champ. We will all be back to good next week, I'm sure.

I have some pics to post taken over January and maybe I will get around to posting them tonight. I'm going to workout, take a shower, tan, eat and go to work. I have the weekend off now for the next 9 weeks!!!

2/2/12

Happy Groundhog Day!! In Maine (or down South) Groundhog day doesn't have the meaning it does for the lower New England and middle atlanic states...6 weeks left...in Maine it's more like 12 and down south, they already had their "winter". It was 63 here yesterday! And sunny!

So my little something started to get a little worse as the day wore on. I took my honey, drank my green tea but decided to take the nyquil at 9 to ensure a solid night's sleep with no runny/stuffy nose. Worked like a charm! Slept in till 8:30. I have a little chest congestion this morning but I'm feeling better than last night!

I have to get some paperwork done and work out, go tanning and then go to work for a couple of hours. Almost like a day off since I don't have to watch Bella today, although she and her mother will probably go to work with me this afternoon.

Blech!

I have a touch of something. My throat has been scratchy since yesterday. I have a very slight runny nose. It was stuffy when I woke up this morning. I did not sleep well last night so that didn't help. I did workout this morning and that did help, as did tanning. I could go either way right now. I think I will get some honey and cough drops and continue drinking my green tea. I will probably take my vitamin c today too. If I sleep well tonight, maybe I can kick this thing before it turns into something I don't want!!

February!!!

Two weeks till Valentine's!!!

Got my first workout done. Hopefully I will get my second in before 1pm. I need to tan before picking up David, too. It's going to be 60ish today!!! But rainy I guess.

Finished GWTDT. Great story. Started The Girl Who Played with Fire last night. I'm expecting to be done with the complete trilogy by next week. Then I think onto A Thousand Splendid Suns as I've had it for awhile. I'd also like to finally read The Life of Pi which I just haven't gotten around to yet. Next up on the Kindle will be Stephen King's 11/22/63. That all should keep me busy this spring.

Idiots!

Absolutely can NOT believe there is still hype around the pit bull breed! I love my dog MORE THAN most people! She has been absolutely hands down the most loyal friend I've ever had. I am much more likely to be the one to punch people in their fucking mouths than my dog is to attack anyone. I've come to a place in my life where I'm well educated enough that I have no desire to use my college degree to talk to idoiots. I will punch you out instead.
