Finances

Good news on the finance front. I've managed to put away between $800-$1000 per month in my savings account. The rest of my income pays my bills, which right now consist of rent, food, electric, phone and insurance. I don't need to worry about heat again until at least next November. SOOOOOO, my new car plan looks like it is this...run my present car until it stops. It is running very well again (I think it is sensing I am shopping for another). If it stops in May or June, I will have about six or seven thousand for a good used one. If it can wait to die until August, I'll have $12,000 for a new one. Yeah, I can take out a car loan and just buy a new one this weekend. I can afford the $300 a month, but there is something very appealing about just buying a car straight out. No payments. Just insurance. With my other car payments, we were a 2 income family. There was always a little safety net there...we never bought more than Mike's income could handle...my income was our play money. The downside to this plan is regarding my summer fun. I don't know if I want to wait until August, even if mine sticks it out...a newer car by June means the I will feel safer taking more frequent road trips with the kids this summer. I don't know how far I want to venture with this one. BUT, then again, whatever happens happens. It isn't like we'll be stranded anywhere with no money in my savings.

There really isn't anything wrong with my car that a little TLC couldn't fix. It definitely needs a tune-up. It has new tires. A new transmission. It is a 1998 and in really good shape body-wise. But it is getting to that stage where it's quirks aren't that cute anymore...my trunk is a pop the button kind and works when it wants. My door handle on the passenger side sticks up on the outside sometimes, so you have to make sure it is down or the door won't latch shut. And I have 228,000 miles on it, but with a new transmission, this relationship could go on forever. It is inspected and inspectable. The only thing the mechanic could find wrong is that I need new front brakes and a small leak around the oil pan and that can't be too significant as I have no big spots in my paved driveway. In the words of my brother, "At 228,000 miles, SOMETHING better be leaking on this bitch!"

I would have a hard time selling it now because of the miles, although I am shocked at some of the prices dealers are trying to get for their extremely high mileaged vehicles older than my own! I would get more selling the transmission by itself. I could always donate it to Goodwill...how often does that happen? :)

This Side of Filth

I'm feeling much better. Tests came back fine. Probably a mild UTI my doctor said, but because of the area of the pain, and my reaction when she pushed, she wants me to keep an eye on it. I could be having trouble with my interstitial myomas again.

Anyway, so it is Tuesday. My cleaning day, unless I have to work Tuesday morning and then it is Wednesday. How can a house get so disorganized after one week? I do my major organizing, sweeping, mopping, laundry on this day so the kids and I just have to do some straightening on the weekends. Oh well, I think I will just resign myself to the fact that my house will always be just this side of messy!

I tackled the bathroom today. Always a disaster with 3 women and one boy in the house. This is a very large bathroom and my laundry room is on one side of it. It used to be my favorite room in the house. It used to be MINE. The laundry consisted of little kid clothes that didn't take up much room and their clothers were always a pleasure to wash and fold. Little footed jammies smelling like Tide and Downy. The make-up was mine. The hair dryer and curling irons...mine! The shampoo and conditioner...mine. Now, I have to have my shampoo. The girls each have their own favorite brands. Zach has to have his Shampoo for Men. We have body washes, loofahs, razors. Zach still has his toys. Whoever wants a shower or bath after him usually has to pick up his army men, Star Wars and Lord of the Ring figures, along with his various boats.

I decided to clean off the top of the fridge...a nice place to store my liquor, assorted small appliances that I use just enough to need to leave out, but not enough to take up valuable counter space. Pretty much it just required some dusting up there. I remember hearing a woman say not to bother cleaning the top of the fridge unless you are expecting company over 6'2!

Okay...off to do some more laundry...3 more loads to go!

Update

Zach has confirmed that I have 3 of 4 symptoms of the West Nile virus, at least according to his science book!

Hayley has confirmed that Adam and Julie are back together..."How do you know that, Hayley?" "Because they kissed in front of me this morning!"

Bird Flu???

NOPE! Kidney trouble! Who knew the two would have similar symptoms??? Nausea, chills, fever, back pain, bladder pain. I just assumed if I were having kidney or bladder trouble, it would burn when I pee. Not necessarily. My doctor thinks it is probably one of a few things...UTI, kidney infection, or my personal favorite....kidney stones! She can't get me in until tomorrow but said that if I am up again tonight, like I was at 2 this morning, to get my butt into the emergency room. She has put me on a cranberry juice and lots of water diet. She isn't too too worried because my urine is clear and I am urinating. Severe kidney stones might block the passage. If it is stones and they're not big, I'll just be sent home with the same diet plan and have to pass them.

I'm actually feeling much better right now. I'm drinking alot and it has lessened the pain. Might just be a close call and a reminder to be vigilent about taking care of myself.

In other news, my brother and sister-in-law are talking again and it looks like he might move back home. I hope so.

Right now, I am home. I worked until lunch today and Claire has sent me to the doctors! Now I am home, drinking fluids and resting on the couch. This is as good an excuse as any to take a nap.

UMaine Advances!!!

We advance to our 10TH Frozen Four appearance! I'm very excited! BC made it in, too! They're playing North Dakota, who we've lost to before. We're either playing Cornell or Wisconsin. There is something to be said for two Hockey East teams making it into the Frozen Four.

I have had a very weird weekend. First, Friday night, I wasn't feeling so great, so I scrapped plans to go out with Allison and Eric. At 7:30 PM, my sister-in-law called. My brother moved out last weekend. Anyway, she just wanted to talk. She has been pretty upset and we're still going to be good friends. She is the mother of my niece and nephew AND my kids ADORE her. Anyway, we talked on the phone until 2:30 AM! I kept trying to get off the phone, but she'd start crying again. Needless to say, by Saturday evening, I was wiped! I had bought 4 movies...Elizabethtown, Just Like Heaven, The Brothers Grimm, and Domino. I fell asleep during the last 15 minutes of The Brothers Grimm at 7:30 PM. I slept right thru until 4:30 AM...that was my 8 hours! So I got up, went pee, watched some of the movies that I missed, that the kids stayed up to watch.

Today, we just hung out here, watched the hockey game and I've been feeling headachey and feverish.

Frozen Four Countdown

Gooooooo BLUE!!!!!

UMaine advances past Harvard Crimson on our way to the Frozen Four again! Great game. Maine outplayed Harvard 6-1. Tomorrow at 2 PM we meet up with number one seed Michigan State. We're number 3. We have nothing to lose!

Right now, I am really missing my UMaine Athletic Department days! Aside from my real job there, I also helped with the Event Staff and helped plan the Pep rallies before big games. I remember one day the Athletic Director calling the office when we were in the Atlantic 10 conference (football) and needing some pins before the press conference and the pep rally. "Sure, no problem! Jenn and I can do it!" says my boss, Kenda, "How many do you need? Okay, 2000 in an hour...can do!" Remember this is called Badge-A-Minut for a REASON! We took charge of the pep rally planning after that fiasco and switched to Mardi Gras beads in our school colors! Badge a minute, my ass!

Conversations from the Car

"Jeez, I can't wait until that guy with the giggley headlight stops following me!"
"Mom, pull over before you start having seizures!"

Me aloud, waiting in traffic, "those steps on that house are crooked."
"Jeez, Mom, there is more to life than house grammar!" ~ Zach (can you tell he is an English teacher's son?)

So young, yet so wise!

Teresa, you and your wisdom teeth are in my prayers! :)

Yes, dead wood or any mention of other wooden stick like objects made to be shoved up an available ass are usually code for Brian.

I accidently inhaled some new brand of super renuzit fabric refresher (think Febreeze)...so now my nose is completely free from residual odors I may have picked up in my life and I now have the nose of a bloodhound. I can smell eau de cigarette a mile away. Remember to point to nozzle away from face before squirting.

The weather update for today was 45 degrees...no rain or snow of the like that was predicted.

Crazy Day

I am working 8-12 and then 3-8 tomorrow. Iona has a funeral to go to and Carl will be out of the office until 12:30...it won't be too bad, though, but I am sure I will be tired when I get home tomorrow night!

I ran most of my errands today so I won't have to worry about any tomorrow. Sierra was so frigging cute today. She ran the errands with me and got two dog treats at the bank today, got a dog treat when I stopped to get gas and got a doggie donut when I went thru the drive thru at Dunkin Donuts! The kids taught her how to roll over. What a ham!

We're having tacos tonight for supper.

Wednesday is Here!

I need to go get my latte. I am yawning non-stop. Not sunny today. A nice warm cloudy day. A day when I could take a nice nap, which I just might do. I don't need to be anywhere until 2 PM, which is when I pick up the kids.

I had horrible indigestion last night. Three Tums, I took. I have a backache today. Sierra took over most of the bed. I push over, she pushes over...she literally has to be right by my side, touching me. Very sweet, but not so good for the back. Maybe I'll let her sleep with Kayla tonight. Right now, I am blogging on the couch with my laptop and who is asleep with her head in my lap? I think she thinks she is a cat. I have never seen a dog sleep so much. I imagine she probably didn't get a lot of restful sleep while she was living on the street and in the shelter.

Another week almost over. Time just flies by when you're having fun. The kids were good at the center last night. The boy on the leash started medication! Praise be to the medication Gods. If this were my child, I doubt I would explore the medication route, but since he's not, medicate up! He was ready to leave and then he comes back and says, "Jennifer, stand right there, " so I stood right there and then he came over and hugged me. It was sweet. Early in the day, I told him several times what a good boy he was being and he continued playing saying, "Yes, I am."

Okay...I need to get dressed, get my latte, go to the bank, and go tanning. I think I will save my grocery shopping for this evening. It is just such a chore for me. I wish I enjoyed it more. And I have a ton of laundry to catch up on. I did accomplish alot yesterday, though. I got all of the floors swept and mopped. Dishes were done and put away. I'm doing my bedroom this weekend.

March 21, 2006

Another beautiful sunny day! It is supposed to be mid-40s today. It'd be warmer, but we have this gusty wind that has been blowing around for a few days. It will warm up this weekend but is supposed to rain! Of course! I'm itching to go down to Virginia Beach again next month. I really want to but I really don't want to spend a week of my vacation time. Last year, it didn't matter. This year, I only get 2 1/2 weeks...three if I throw in some sick days.

I don't have to work until 3 today. I took the kids out to breakfast this morning before dropping them off at school. Now it is just me and the dog. I have the hallway/entryway/stairs swept and mopped. Now I just have to sweep and mop the kitchen and living room. I like to do a good sweep on Tuesdays...the kind where you actually MOVE furniture...the rest of the week, the kids help out and rarely does the furniture get moved. At least they help! This weekend, I am seriously going to clean my room. I keep putting it off. I have clean clothes that are on the end of my settee, that could be put in my armoire and dresser...I've just been lazy. I did dust my room a bit last weekend, but I think that just stirred some more up. It definitely needs a good damp cloth wipe down!

The city's spring clean-up will be in April. So the kids have been warned...clean your rooms and get everything that is broken or you don't want ready to be put by the side of the road. The city comes thru and picks it all up one day a year for nothing. I have the kids old pool going, some older oriental carpets that are probably worth a lot of money, but I really don't want to clean them or pay to have them cleaned.

It isn't even 9 AM yet. I can't believe I've been so energetic so early on in the day. Well, I am going to put on some tunes and finish my house work. I really should go grocery shopping at some point today, but I am just not feeling it. I'll do it tomorrow morning.

First day of SPRING! Yippee...I wish it felt more like it! :)

I had a great time yesterday with Eric and Erin and Eric's family. It was a nice drive, both ways.

Today, I bought a new down comforter. I started my shopping spree just looking for a high thread count duvet...I found a very nice one and was ready to check out when I saw a VERY NICE down comforter...the same price I was going to pay for the duvet. SOOOO, I bought the new comforter and two new shams and two new Tommy Hilfiger pillows. I will still buy a duvet for my old comforter and give that to Hayley who has the sweetest quilt in the whole wide world on her bed, but she wants to change her room! :( It'll be easier to just give her my comforter and let her change duvets when she wants to change her room.

It is 6:19 PM and I am ready for bed. I am ashamed to say this, but I was in bed by 7 PM last night. I think I was asleep by 7:30. I woke up at 10:30 PM, thinking it was like 3 in the morning or something. I fell back to sleep. Woke up at midnight and woke up at 4. Tonight, I am going to try to just stay awake like a normal person and go to bed at a more reasonable time.

Tonight is Super Nanny and Wife Swap.

Erin, don't forget about Sons & Daughters...it comes on Tuesday night at 9 PM on ABC.

Okay, time to get my jammies on, brush my teeth and take out my contacts.

Got my latte. Got the kids some breakfast. Picked up some shampoo that I was out of. Bought my adorable niece everything she asked for. Luckily for me, none of it was expensive. I love spoiling her and then sending her HOME! :) Taught the boys a lesson. They were hiding when we were leaving for the store...so they got NOT A THING! Next time I yell for them to come and see what I want, I bet they will remember this.

I have to go shower and then get my niece and nephew home. Zach and I will be going to the park along the water front to play with the dog. After that, I am going to do a quick clean-up of the house and wait for the girls to get back. Tonight, we'll probably go out to dinner and take the dog to that pet store.

I'm meeting Eric at his house at 9 tomorrow morning, then our roadtrip will begin. It'll be fun. A nice relaxing drive in the country, listening to some good tunes, with the company of good friends. If anything it'll break up the monotony of the routine we've all found ourselves in.

Blah!!! I slept for 12 hours.

My niece and nephew spent the night last night. I'll be dropping them off this morning.

I'm headed to Norway with Eric tomorrow. His grandfather has been very sick and I offered to go with him to keep him company on the drive. Brian and I made that trip on the motorcycle 4 or 5 times when we were heading to New Hampshire and Vermont.

I am supposed to go out tonight with Allison. I wanted to go out last night and she had to ask her friend "Kristen" again, if she could go. I'm not quite sure what Allison has gotten herself into. Anyway, I still want to go to the pet store and buy dog food and more toys. At this pet store, we can bring Sierra with us. That will be fun and she can pick her toys out herself!

Well, I have to go get my latte and figure out what I am going to do today!

Kick Ass!

My girl scout cookies are IN!!!

Thursday Already!

These weeks just fly by. Of course, the weekends always do, that is a given, but Mondays are in the office, and then I go home to the kids and we have supper and watch our shows. Tuesday, sometimes in the office in the morning, sometimes not, and then I pick up the kids and we head to the Learning Center. Next thing you know, it is Hump day.

My sister is back up from Connecticut with the baby. The kids and I stopped over to my mother's after work. First, we stopped at Wendy's with Danny, after work, on our way to drop Danny off at home. Then on to my brother's. We grabbed Lexi (my 4 year old niece) and then went to my mother's. My niece Gabby was already there. She was absolutely adorable last night. Of course, my newest baby niece, Gracie, was the cutest!!! My mom had all four of her kids at home and all of her grandkids, plus my Aunt (her sister) and my cousin Meghan stopped by. It was fun. A little crazy, though. My mother and sister each have King Charles Cavalier Spanials (kind of like a minature looking Cocker spanial)...so two of their dogs were there, plus mine and all of the kids. Surprisingly calm.

We went home and I was asleep by 9:30 or so. I woke up. Got the kids to school. Chatted with Eric this morning. Now, here I sit, sipping my latte, blogging on my laptop with my dog's head in my lap! Life is as perfect as it isn't.

Spring is finally here. Mud season has arrived. My front lawn is quite muddy where the paved driveway ends and the grass meets. Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. A good reason for all of us Irish to get drunk, though I don't think many in my family have ever really needed a particular reason to get drunk. For me, spring isn't officially here until after Easter. I don't know why, but I never feel like it is spring until that event is over. Kind of like summer is officially here once the kids are out of school, even though the official day of summer happens much later than that.

Another day in the life of me. Spent the morning at the vet's with the cats...they had to have their booster shots or whatever and their yearly rabies. Fun, Fun! Another $170. Jeez, pets get expensive. Thankfully we're done for another year, barring any major accidents or illnesses...knock on wood.

My new BFF is sleeping by my side. She is so sweet. She sleeps with me, which Kodi never did, except on the couch. Kodi would try to sleep with me, but because of her size and because apparently she felt I was a bed hog in my own queen size bed, she'd get up during the night and move to the couch. Sierra has extremely short hair like Kodi, so shedding is a minimum.

I have to work tonight 3-6. Not too bad. Followed by a quick trip to my brothers and then on to Wendy's for our Wednesday night ritual. Home so Kayla can watch Lost and so I can catch up on some reading. I was asleep by 10 last night. I slept until 8:30 AM. I have not gotten up once in the middle of the night since we've gotten Sierra.

Well, I have to go pick up the kids and finish my last load of laundry before heading to work. All of my bills are finally paid. This has been an exensive week.

March 14, 2006

The kids and I are so happy with our newest member of the family. She is perfect. She fits right in. She loves to ride, which is nice. She loves to go for walks and is so sociable with other dogs and people. Kodi was fine with familiar people and cats but didn't like other dogs. Eric got a scare one time babysitting her. He came over to feed and water her. He was even familiar to her, but the kids and I were gone and she was protecting her property.

The kids lost a friend this weekend in a tragic car crash. Elliot was 16 and had just got his license 3 days before the accident. Speeding + driver inexperience + unfamiliar road = disaster. I knew the girls had known him because they went to school together over the years, even though he was a grade ahead. Zach, however, took the news harder than the girls...I didn't realize how well he knew him...Zach informed me they all rode the school bus together, until last week, when Elliot got his license. Getting Sierra when we did was the absolutely right thing. It made a sad day much less sad. Zach slept with Sierra last night.

It is so cute. Sierra will sleep on the couch cushion adjacent to Kodi's cushion, but won't lie down in her spot. It is like Kodi is still there, sleeping where she is supposed to and Sierra respects that. And it isn't like Kodi's scent isn't already on EVERYTHING we own. She never discriminated where she laid down. Every cushion was available to her, she just had a preferred spot.

Wow, Erica Kane isn't looking so hot anymore. I am enjoying some All My Children. I don't indulge very often. I watched the latest Harry Potter movie about 3 times last night. I love that movie! Another movie I can watch over and over is A Series of Unfortunate Events.

I finished Buffy Season 7 again. I get depressed every time I watch the last episode. I watched it when it actually happened a few years ago on tv. I feel the same way each and every time.

We're meeting with the vet this week or next, so he can get to know my sweet girl. I have had my last (hopefully for a long time) restless night, waking up because of different sounds during the night. While Kodi was alive, I slept sound because I knew she was keeping watch over her house and family. I encourage anyone who is financially able and physically capable to have a dog, please, please consider a shelter dog. Sierra has had such a hard life, though only 3, it is my honor and pleasure to give this survivor the love and kindness and respect all dogs deserve.

Sierra

Sierra
Originally uploaded by jennluvsgable.
Possibly the newest member of our family. I will pick her up on Monday if the adoption goes through. The kids and I met with her today. She is the most calm and easy going dog I have ever met in my life. She is three and was picked up by an animal control officer. She is fully trained and unfortnately was used for irresponsible breeding purposes. She had had a litter of puppies and was pregnant again when they spade her. Those days are behind her now and she loves to cuddle and kiss and just wants a family to love her for the rest of her life. That we can do! :)

FUUUUUUUUU*K!

My night...

I get to the house and the candles are burning and he meets me at the door with what I know will be a wet sloppy kiss that I have so been dreading...only the kisses have improved. He earns a point! Then I say, "Oh today was so busy at work today, I had to work thru lunch...can we go to eat right now? Like right this freaking minute? I am so hungry. I have a headache... maybe herpes...let's go." I'm racing to his truck as he is trying to tie his left shoe.

We get to the Sea Dog. Of course, it is packed tonight. I've been 3 or 4 times in the last few months and it is always dead. My first night out without Brian, and the place is packed with a ton of people I know. I play it cool. We have to wait a half hour for our table. I am talking to the hostess when I feel this creeping arm squeeze me from behind. I am instantly thinking, "MAN, he can't even wait until we're alone!" I turn around, wildly, prepared to remove his arm at his shoulder. It is Karen! (Bailey's Mom)...We hug. She's drunk. Loudly she says, "Jenn, I love you! This isn't Brian. Where is Brian? What happened to Brian? This isn't Brian!!!" "SSSHHHH! It is okay, Karen," I say, " Brian is okay. He hurt his back. This is my friend. Brian is fine. We're fighting, but he'll live." "Oh, been there and done that, " she says, "Brian will come around, don't worry."

Okay, so we sit at the table, eat our food and we catch up with what we've been doing the last few months. I talk obsessively about Brian. Brian, Brian, Brian. I begin to annoy myself. There is a really really cute single guy staring at me two tables away at this time. He comes to our table. Seems he knows my date. He lets me know his long time girlfriend just left him. He is sooooo cute. I'm damning my date's existence secretly.

I have 3 jack and cokes. So much for NOT drinking. We leave and head for Pete and Larry's (a bar)...Oh fan-fucking-tastic! It is karaoke with Joey...what he likes to call Joeyoke...I like to call Jokieokie...anyway...another cute guy there. We share meaningful glances all evening. I spy some friends from high school. It turns into our 16th class reunion. We catch up. High school friend Dan introduces me to lover KEVIN. "I'm gay, Jenn. Always have been." Apparently he was waiting for my mouth to drop or my head to spin...AHHH, Dan, on Prom night, when we all got pissed off at our drunk boyfriends and left in the limo without them and rode around Bangor with our dresses off, hanging out of the moon roof in our sexy lingerie and you didn't care? Kind of a tip off that you might be a LOT bit gay!

The highlights of the evening? High school friend Scott, with bigger man-boobs than my own woman boobs, singing Purple Rain...and having to go to the bathroom (again) and this time, seeing puke in the toilet. This is where I began to laugh maniacally, in the toilet stall, thinking my life had better get f***ing better than this and I mean SOON!

So we leave the bar at 11:45. I get tired, really really tired (really, I did) in the three miles back to his house. I say, Thanks for the night out. It was nice to get out and drink a little. He kisses me again. Again, I am amazed that his kissing has improved greatly. I tried not to run to my car, but walk in a slow and even paced fashion. Inside my head, I was running, though. I get in my car. I start the engine and I peel out of the driveway. I was home in like 3 minutes.

Now here I am. Huge beer headache. I'm hungry and tired and I miss Brian and I love Brian and I need to sleep.

MEN! Part Two

Getting ready to go out and now I am chatting with Brian. My stomach hurts and I don't want to go. How can he talk to me like there isn't a huge big ass f***ing elephant in the room? He completely acts like nothing is wrong! And what exactly is wrong? Other than the fact he's done nothing but push me away for the last month and a half...completely ignore me on Valentine's Day, didn't even thank me for his present or card...now he is waxing his motorcycle and thinking of me.

My anger is waning.

MEN!

So get this...I make plans for tomorrow night...nothing big, just a date with someone from the gym, not anybody I am really interested in, just someone to take my mind off of this huge mess with Brian...just a nice dinner out and a chance to dress up...and who decides tonight is the night he needs to talk? I think he has some kind of sixth sense about this kind of thing. I haven't really considered breaking up with him, even though I am very mad, but I have focused on getting my life back...doing the things I like to do, when I like to do them, etc...and you know what? I have been having a HELL of a good time! I'm spending more time with friends again and my extended family. This break-that-isn't-a-break has been good for me. Emotionally and mentally speaking. But I talked with him. It is so infuriating that he can just start right back in where he left off and act like nothing has been amiss for the past month and a half. I played it cool...answered his questions...inquired about the kids and his back/knee trouble. I don't want to play it cool, but I refuse to let him think I will jump every time he says jump. The last time we went thru this, I started dating someone else, ironically also from the same gym and when Brian said jump, I was dating someone new. The problem? I just want Brian. I don't want anyone else, but I also don't want to just sit around and waste my life while he figures out what he wants. Do you know how many NICE guys like me? For the record, Brian is a nice guy, too, but he's utterly fucked up, which has forced me, on some subconscious level, to mistakenly put him in the "bad" boy level...anyway, I have a lot of nice guys that like me. And I can think of a million reasons not to date them. On one hand, I am so scared of being in a boring, loveless relationship, that I think I avoid nice relationships and always find myself in these grand-scale, epic-sized relationship montrosities. On the other hand, I am not getting any younger and I DO want to settle down eventually. With Brian, I thought I had found the perfect match...things certainly are nowhere near boring, but he definitely has settle down, long term potential...besides, he is my best friend in the world. He knows me better than I know myself sometimes. When things are good, they are so completely wonderful, it helps me overlook things when they are not so good.

Okay...all that rambling was for me mostly...I sort things out with my verbiose diarrhea...I'll be okay. I got to go pee and go to bed!

I am bored! I don't work until 3. I won't pick up the kids for another hour.

My sister emailed and said she and the baby will be here for another visit next week.

I have got to say Buffy Season 7 is probably my favorite.

My ear aches.

Need to Work on List of Creative Titles

Yesterday, on the 15 minute drive to work, I counted no less than 6 cars broken down with their hoods up. Occasionally I'll see a car or two per week, but SIX in a day? Of course I immediately jumped to the apocolyptic war of the worlds conclusion! Paranoid? You betcha, but this my friends, will be precisely why I survive such a crisis. When the aliens come, and they will, I will be ready! And this is how I achieved bomb shelter worthiness!

Work was good tonight. I feel like I am coming down with the flu, though. Headache, fever, just achey all over.

Did you hear about the girl that caught the bird flu and died? Okay, what about all of the specialists saying "Don't buy into the media hype about this thing...you'd have to sleep in the bird barn to catch this particular strain!" Yeah, okay. I haven't done any research on the topic pertaining the girl specifically, so I know nothing of the particulars yet of her circumstance...for all I know, she resided in a bird barn...however, seems like maybe the 'media hype' on the subject was closer to the truth. Time will tell.

Also, is it weird that my 11 year old son turns the radio UP at 2:45 PM to listen to Dr. Gary Chapman? Weirder still that his FAVORITE poet is Gretrude Stein? Or how about the fact that he listens to Delilah (syndicated love song talk host) more than me? His defense? "She soothes me!"

More FYI

Okay, so I'm a little late picking up the kids and I haven't had lunch yet and I had some leftover Kentucky Fried Chicken in the fridge, so I grab a drumstick, head out the door and begin driving down the road. At one point, I have the drumstick in my mouth and my hands on the wheel and I'm thinking, Wow, I am a barbarian! So I am eating away and there is a minor turn in the road. Nothing unexpected as I have lived on this road for 11 years. Well, there should be a warning about driving while under the influence of Kentucky Fried Chicken. My fingers SLIPPED off the wheel while I was turning the car in the direction it SHOULD be going and the wheel spins back the other way and my tire bumped the curb...I could just imagine all of the other drivers behind me wondering if I was drinking, drugging, or talking on my cell phone...nope, I was just stuffing my face with fried chicken! Anyway, let my trials by error be your I-Ching, your words of wisdom, your guide...no fried chicken while driving...no Armoral on the steering wheel ( I found out about this in a similar fashion) and definitely and I mean definitely no matter how much you want to NEVER NEVER Pledge your hardwood floors! After the three kids and the dog failed to manuever the turn into the living room, sliding into the front door, I realized pledging the floor was probably a no-no. Isn't it a wonder I haven't been permanently snatched up by the man of my dreams?

OH, and I stapled my own thumb at work tonight. Stapled! My thumb! As in, I ejected a staple out of the -er and it entered thru my thumb NAIL and I looked down and was momentarily detached from my body and I said, "Wow, I have a staple sticking out of my thumbnail." Then the pain set in and I was then like, "Oh My GOD, I have a frigging staple sticking out of my thumbnail!!!"

Live and learn, live and learn!

Nothing too exciting going on. I worked this morning. I will work this afternoon. I will work tonight! I have this week's scheduling done for the Learning Center. At least for the older kids. We will be doing Comic Strips tonight and on Thursday, more work on our identity unit.

That new show, Sons and Daughters premiers tonight. We are going to watch it when we get home. Zach has been repeating all week, "We're going to Hell." "Why do you say that?" "Because we're Jews!" which is the conversation the little girl on the show has with her parents. Zach also likes the preview of when Grandma is napping and the kids write on her face with permanent marker and the dad says, "What are you doing? That is permanent marker. Now Grandma is forever Hitler!" and the camera pans to a sleeping Grandma with a hitler mustache. My favorite preview is of the older daughter talking to step-Grandpa as to why he is leaving Grandma...or the part when Dad breaks the news to the kids that Grandma has fallen and hurt her "na-na" and might be taking a trip to Heaven to sit next to Jesus. It looks like it will be a funny show. Tonight will tell.

Such sad news about Dana Reeves. Dead from lung cancer at age 44. She never smoked. I feel so bad for their 13 year old son. He's lost both parents, within two years of each other.

Okay...I need to grab a quick lunch before picking up my children and heading back to work.

FYI

If you are ever considering tanning and you ever already have a slight fever...DON'T TAN that day! Should be obvious to most, but I took the day off yesterday from tanning and didn't want to miss two days in a row. I started feeling a bit feverish and headachey about an hour before I was to go. Not wanting to cancel my appointment and not wanting to miss another day, I talked myself into going. I won't be doing that again! I've taken some tylenol and consumed lots of beverages and took the kids to KFC tonight. I am feeling much better! Ah well, we all need a little near death experience once in awhile to let us fully appreciate our lives.

In other good news, I got a letter in the mail regarding my child support. I'll be getting $300 a week. Down from the $415 that was initially ordered and up from the $200 I was presently getting. Plus he still provides insurance. He can appeal it again and it will go to superior court, but after that, there is nothing else he can do. I really hope this is it.

Kingpin

We had a fun night last night. Dinner, the arcade, shopping at Walmart and a night of bowling. I bought a new electric blanket. They are on sale for $40! Normally they are $80-$100. It has two controllers and an automatic shut-off after 10 hours. I have notoriously cold hands and feet and even I was TOO warm after awhile, so I give this 5 out 5 stars. I also bought some new flannel jammies. On clearance for $3! I also bought q-tips, baby powder and deodorant. When did Walmart start carrying 400 count sheets? It is about time of course. I don't sleep on anything less than 400. Yes, I am a princess! Just kidding, but there are some things I don't scrimp on. Sheets are one of them.

Plans for today are...probably some cleaning, reading, movie watching and Kakuro!

Saturday

My errands are all done this morning. We're just chilling out at the house. I bought 4 new movies last night. The Wedding Crashers, In Her Shoes, Fever Pitch, and The Corpse Bride. I also still haven't watched Sahara yet. I bought that a few weeks ago. The girls are babysitting today and tonight. I have to drop them off at 4 PM...then it will be just Zach and I. We are meeting my friend Allison and the boy she watches, Jordan, at the mall. Jordan is ten and gets along well with Zach. Anyway, we're meeting at the mall and we'll let the boys play in the arcade for awhile and then we'll have supper at Ruby Tuesdays. After, we're going bowling. It won't be a late night, I know that much. Last night, the kids and I all settled in, in the living room, ready to watch movies. We watched The Corpse Bride, had supper and then started watching The Wedding Crashers. Kayla was out before 9 PM...Zach, Hayley and I were out about 9:15! And we all slept until about 8 this morning. I finally got a good nights sleep, without waking up in the middle of the night and then staying awake. I am looking forward to a repeat of last night.

I am looking forward to seeing the movie Aquamarine! How lame am I? :) I read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with my 8th graders a few years ago and loved it and really enjoyed seeing the movie with my girls, so the girls and I are looking forward to this movie. Harry Potter dvd is going on sale Tuesday. Can't wait to buy that. Kayla is expecting Buffy Season 7 in the mail on Monday.

The weather is warming up, thank you God! I am so ready for spring!!! I know my pocketbook is ready for a break from my heating bill, as well!

Sad and Happy and Weird

I was SO happy just a minute ago! I ran into my preschooler Sammi's mommy at the grocery store and we caught up for a few minutes and we traded numbers so I could spend some time with my girl! She just had a meeting with my bosses, Claire and Shawn at DHS, as she is a Social worker for DHS and we are the Department of Health and Welfare...so anyway...then I randomly saw two books that I was going to buy at Border's tomorrow, on sale 60% off...it was FATE!!!

Then I got home, started supper and checked my email...I got an email from my friend Sean...we dated briefly, during a break between Brian and I about 2 years ago, and we've remained good friends. He emailed me and let me know he was in Indiana right now and is being deployed to Afghanistan at the end of the month. He asked for some pictures of me so he could keep them with him.

More weirdness...a woman I work with Mary, is on her way to Indiana to be with her husband for a little while before he gets deployed to Afghanistan...oddly enough, Sean and Randall work together.

A LOOOOONG day at work today. Thank God for Carl and Iona! They always make me laugh.

My belly is hurting tonight. You might consider trying the new Deli sandwiches at Wendy's...DON'T...I haven't felt right since. I'll stick to the greasy cheeseburgers from now on. I think the kids and I are going to go buy some movies and stay in for the evening. I'm just not feeling so great.

Well, I have a tanning appointment with Kayla and I will blog more later.

Cute

One of my favorite students, Courtney (age 6), and I had a funny moment last week. We were sitting together on the floor, reading and one of the other girls hit her own sister, so I said, "We don't hit at the Learning Center, so tell your sister you're sorry and please stop." Courtney looks at me and says, "Wow, you should be a teacher! You sounded just like one!"

Thanks, Courtney! I am glad the $30,000 I invested on my education was on the right career path...according to Courtney.

Happy March

Warmer weather is on its way! Next week, things are looking like they'll be back in the 40s and maybe higher. Officially, I don't believe our thermometers got below zero during daytime hours this past week, but it has been very windy, making it feel like it is below zero. I know it is cold when my car does this rrrrrr...rrrrrr...before starting and my car prefers 20-30 degrees. It doesn't like it colder than that, and I have to say my car makes more noises and acts weirder when the weather warms up. But when it is like 20 out, she purrs like a kitten. Anyway, knock on wood, my car has started every day for me since I've owned it.

I woke up early again. This time it was 2:30 AM. I went online and checked out this website for German Shepard dogs...some breeders/trainers in Washington state (I think) deal with imported shepards. On the site, they have an adult dog section and for $5000 and up, you can have the dog of your choice delivered right to your airport. Transportation is included in the cost and you get a video of your dog with its handler and learn the commands (German) for that dog. The dogs are fully trained for family/personal protection and for K-9 work. I was just so intrigued by the site. I checked out their customer satisfaction page and was impressed with the loyalty of their customers.

So if I had an indispensible amount of money, I would buy:

*a fully trained German shepard or two
*all new Mac computers for me and the kids...have you seen some of their new stuff? I love my iBook and I even have OS X...but it isn't as pretty as some of the new stuff! :)
*my own tanning bed
*the new 7 passenger Land Rover is pretty HOT!
