7/27/12

Today is going to be a busy day! Tomorrow will hopefully be busy spent with my most favorite people in all the world on my third most favorite day of the year (ok, maybe my fifth!)...my birthday! I love the 4th of July, Christmas, Valentine's, our anniversary and then my birthday. I'm certainly not excited about getting older, but I look dang good for my age! Thank you God, good DNA, lots of exercise and eating healthy! Nothing in moderation! Living life to the fullest, except on days I don't, and that's okay too! And most importantly, having a wonderful, loving partner who makes my days brighter and easier. And of course Bella's little hugs and kisses have a magical effect at any given moment. And a most loyal best friend dog, Sierra. Life is more often more than just good! Obviously I survived the chaos of Wednesday. I will never do that again!

7/24/12

Seriously hate how quickly people can f--k up your life if you let them. I've had a great summer, and plan on continuing to have a great summer, and after tomorrow I will let it roll off my back. Today though, I'm going to stay crabby and vent. So I offer to help a friend out at work and will fill the shift tomorrow, because hey, I was doing the overnight anyway and would already be there and then I wouldn't have to come in 4-7. So that turned into now I'm taking a very very difficult, highly behavioral individual to a professional appointment, looking like I just did the frikken overnight, driving 30 unexpected extra miles...grrrrrrrr, but I can do this, I think....THEN THEN THEN I get another call to inform me after that fun filled appointment, I get to take somebody else and work with the work crew the rest of the effing day! Oh and drive another 30 unexpected effing miles in the other direction once I get back to home base. Seriously??? If I were asked, hey, can you work my day program shift, my answer would have been no. One, I'm not working in public after doing an overnight. Two, my week was already set up for my own work schedule and the gas I have was planned for that. So yeah, to ask if I could just do one thing and get me to agree and THEN call me later in the day and give me the rest of the details...grrrrrrrr! This will be the one and only time this will happen. Thank God my assistant manager is reasonable and has helped make the nightmare a little better. And to top it all off, I went to bed last night, put my iPhone on the dresser and woke up to find the backplate with a crack. Seriously??? I've dropped my phone once or twice...no damage...I set the dang thing on the dresser and wake up to this??? So looks like I will be going to the Apple store for them to fix it this weekend. A new backplate for $30 and it doesn't mess with your warranty. You can actually fix it yourself but i just want it done right. The phone is fine. You probably can't even tell it's there, but I see it. I SEE IT. And I will physically remain feeling ill until it is back into pristine condition. And I will continue to remain highly pissed until 3 tomorrow after-effing-noon because that is when I will be getting home from work after going in tonight at 9.

7/22/12

What a perfect day! I floated in the pool for a bit of it, but mostly just spent the day catching some good sun! I love days when you get good even color. I lotioned up really well when I came inside. Right now I'm sipping some home brewed sweet tea with some freshly picked mint leaves. I also got a lot of reading done today. Tomorrow will be more cloudy than sunny, with probable thunderstorms, so I'm glad I enjoyed the sun and pool today. Hayley and I had shake n bake tilapia for dinner. Oh my god! SOOOO good! I think I like it better than using chicken! So tender and yummy. We also had green beans on the side. A yummy healthy dinner and some Just Dance 3 after!

Blech!

All the overtime the last two weeks is finally catching up to me. Tomorrow I hope to do nothing but float in the pool. Last night was fun. We played Just Dance 3. You definitely work up a sweat after just a few dances! It's nice to have the AC off and have the windows open. I'm the type of person who likes it HOT, yet I live and work with a bunch of people who like to keep the AC on freeze.

7/19/12

Loving these hot summer days. Yesterday was a bit much though, with the mega humidity until the 4 drops of rain finally fell. I think I heard it rain during the night but things seem pretty dry out there this morning. Not nearly so humid today. It's actually quite lovely. The weekend is looking to be super, so I will definitely get in some pool time. I'm really really hoping for a regular work week next week. No overtime. My house needs some spring cleaning but it's been too nice out to get stuck inside cleaning! The bare minimum is getting done. Dishes, a daily sweep, and I cleaned the toilet yesterday.

7/17/12

I can't believe I am awake this early, already drinking coffee. I guess that's what happens when you fall asleep at 9:05. I read till 9, shut off the light and have no other memory till my husband got out of bed to get ready for work this morning. I'm really hoping for a regular work week next week and no overtime. I'm also hoping for a rain day...not because I like rain or I'm too hot or because we need rain...simply because I want an excuse to stay inside all day and do nothing!!! If the sun is shining I feel real guilt if I'm not out there enjoying every last moment of the beautiful day. I'm making excellent progress with Pride and Prejudice and can soon cross that classic of my list. I daresay I'm enjoying The Fountainhead more than P&P. Book 4 in The Game of Thrones series is killing me. Oh my God! G.R.R.M's writing is not what it's been as evidenced by the first two books in the series. Book 3 had moments of lag but redeemed itself with the ending. My thoughts are that maybe his editor has gone missing and G.R.R.M is editing (more likely NOT editing) his own work and is completely blind to the fact that we don't need EVERY last detail about "events" that prove to not really be events at all. People we've never read about yet, show up, make camp, others we've never read about show up, raid the camp...someone dies, then they continue on their merry way, never to be read about again. WHY??? Stick to the main story lines or introduce new characters if you must, but DO something with them. You don't get a prize for most words on a page, dingo. See, when I buy your book, we enter into a contract. You do your job (tell the damn story) and I do mine. One of us (you) has dropped the proverbial ball my friend.

7/15/12

Happy Birthday to Hayley! We had a yummy dinner and some cake and ice cream and then some grown up drinks to celebrate. That's right! Hayley's 21! Other than her birthday, it's been a pretty tame week. Some work (overtime for me for last week and this week), lots of sun and floating in the pool and some good reading, and even a Gilmore Girls marathon or two. I didn't even realize I hadn't blogged for a week. This has been a pretty great spring/summer so far, and I always enjoy fall in Southern New England. Warm days, cool nights. And an ocean still warm enough to swim in through October.

7/8/12

It was indeed a crazy busy week. We spent the 4th in Boston on the Charles River for the show and fireworks. I wish I could say this was our happiest time yet, but not even close! Bella had a fabulous time and I'm glad for that. I slept in late on the 5th, got up, got coffee, swam in the pool, and then got ready to head to Mohegan Sun for a great concert. Another late night ensued. Slept in late again. A great clearance sale at KMart in which Bella scored some fun toys. I did read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. In two days. The first 10 pages or so...eh...part one was pretty good...the first page of part two has you saying aloud, what, What, WHAT??? Great story to get lost in. Fabulous beach read if you're inclined. Can't wait to read her first two novels now. I'm halfway through The Fountainhead and about halfway through Pride and Prejudice. This has been a great summer of reading for me.

7/3/12

And the craziness will soon commence! Lots to do today but first on my list is coffee! I'm up early this morning so I can fall asleep quickly tonight because we will be leaving to get Scott at 4:30 AM. We should be setting up camp on the Charles River by 6. That includes our gazebo, as we're not going to let the chance of a stray thunderstorm ruin our festivities! My wonderful husband got the pool lights up and it looks so great out there with it all lit up! Quite festive and fun. Now if only it would go back up into the 100s so I actually want to be in the pool at night. I'm officially a Rhode Islander now because I sweater up when it falls below 80 degrees! The best part of this usually horrid vacation week in our seaside town??? I've barely left my own backyard! The beach will still be there when these obnoxious out-of-towners leave and I revel in our close proximity to it. I have an evil little chuckle I reserve for when all the people run for their cars and drive out of town for a passing thunderstorm, and then the beaches are free and clear and sunny for those of us that live in the area. It's almost like the town is trying to purge itself of the disgusting vacationers as well. But I digress. I hear a pretty pretty princess talking up a storm on the other side of my bedroom door. And my husband and I have made a pact to have a HAPPY 4th of July...so I'm going to breathe in all the happy that surrounds me and breathe out all the bad and just let it go. I will let the town do its thing!

Happy July!!!

July is the BEST month of the calendar because it is the month of my birth and my baby girl Hayley Jordan. It also includes my favorite holiday...Independence Day! Today was hands down the best day my husband and I have had in a long time. We spent the entire day in the sun and in the pool and just RELAXED together. We're gearing up for the 4th. So excited to spend the day with family and friends in probably hands down the best city to celebrate our nation's holiday. Tomorrow night will be fun too! Drinks, fire, s'mores, nighttime swimming in the pool.
