Blech! My relaxing week and weekend is coming to a close. Back to work at both jobs tomorrow. 52 1/2 hours on board plus a mess of a storm to factor in. The good news is that if school gets canceled because of bad weather or more likely, widespread power outages, then no workie for me! Except I'm supposed to do the overnight Monday night into Tuesday morning, which is when the storm is actually supposed to reach us, but my boss just texted and said she'd do my overnight! :) So I guess at school tomorrow, I will get a better feel about whether or not school will likely be canceled Tuesday. I wish they would just go ahead and cancel it preemptively so people can focus on their own situations for the duration of the storm. It's not the storm as much as lack of power at my house that has me concerned. Getting ready for work with no lights or hot water will be interesting to say the least. I had a really good day yesterday with my husband and Bella. It was so warm and we spent some time at the beach. Last night we had a fire outside and some drinks. We're just trying to enjoy "normal" for as long as possible. Our personal electronic devices are charged or charging. My Kindle is still loaded with books I'm reading. I have extra batteries for my reading light in case we do lose power. I will take a nice bath and shave my legs and enjoy hot water while I still can. We have plenty of board games to keep us busy. I guess we will just stock up on some snack foods and drinks. At least I have Wednesday off to recharge MYSELF! I'm sure I will need it! Attitude is everything so I guess I had better get my mindset in a more positive space. Time to clean and prepare.

10/26/12

So I had the week off from one job which means I only worked 37 hours this week. I am feeling pretty good about it. I think I would have gone crazy having worked zero hours. I don't even know how people take real vacations if they are just going to stay home. What do you do without getting sloth-like and depressed??? Of course, if it were summer, I'm sure I'd find plenty to do here at home such as spend every waking moment at the beach. Speaking of the beach, I went there this early morning because I caught a glimpse of the sun as it was rising and knew I needed to be there. It was so warm and peaceful there this morning. The antithesis of what's coming around here Sunday through Tuesday-ish...they still haven't narrowed the storm down completely yet but it will likely hit us here in Rhode Island on Monday. It still may high tail it out to sea but all data is pointing to negative on that hope. I am not one to overreact or even over prepare for storms around here, having grown up in Maine where there are real storms and real snow and real threats to lives...but there's just this feeling I'm getting that we may be in for a ride with this one, so I'm going to load up on some snack foods and do some baking Saturday and Sunday to get us through. We have the grill with burners, so I'm not worried about our water supply. The roads flood around here during a regular rain storm, so I'm definitely expecting some washouts. The Tahoe is high enough and has 4 wheel drive and seats 7 comfortably, and we're high enough up the hill that our house won't flood. Our back yard however, yep, she'll get wet! Worst case scenario...we sleep on the boat! :)

10/22/12

I am having a Monday. The weekends fly by way too fast. This first cup of coffee has really done nothing for my mood. I just want some time to have a full-on mental breakdown. I think it's just the impending time change weirdness. My brain and body knows it's coming. I get this way around the same time in the Spring. I just want to be a bear. A hibernating bear. Who can read and hibernates in a library. The good news is soccer season is almost over and I get my husband back. The holidays are coming up too and that makes me happy. I guess I am going to work on my closet today. I'm feeling the urge to purge.

What a nice weekend! It was laid back. Hayley and I went shopping Friday night and to the late movie. We saw Paranormal Activity 4. It was ok. Not terribly scary but I enjoyed the story. I miss my husband terribly when he's away but I can't lie, I LOVED having the bed to myself! Saturday was kind of a waste as I did nothing but watch movies. Today however, I made up for it! I cleaned and scrubbed and washed and mopped! The house is looking and smelling delicious! Bella played in the leaves for a bit. I make seasoned chicken, smashed potatoes, and very yummy sautéed Brussels sprouts with garlic, bacon and asiago cheese.

Not entirely sure that today isn't a Monday...just one of those days. Tomorrow is my exceptionally long day. I can not wait until the weekend. Paranormal Activity 4 on Friday night. Have to get my nails done, too. Other than that, I'm doing nothing. Cleaning I guess. Cooking. Staying in my pajamas as much as possible. I can not wait until vacation! I saw Here Comes the Boom last Friday. It was a surprisingly good movie! I liked it. All three of the kids are working now. Coordinating schedules hasn't been the nightmare I anticipated and things are going rather smoothly in that regard. I had a great day with Bella yesterday, playing at the beach.

My surprise gift

10/14/12

My husband reminded me last night that I haven't blogged for awhile. I haven't been doing much of anything except working and trying to squeeze all of my errands in the Monday-Friday schedule. I love having weekends off, but I rarely have the desire to do much of anything. I had a nasty cold about two weeks ago, recovered nicely, and then got hit with some late in the game allergies! Finely feeling better in that regard, but my stomach just hasn't felt right all week. Really no symptoms, just a heavy kind of ache. So yesterday, when I got out of the tub, there was a surprise present on my bed! A pair of Ugg slippers from my husband. Then he picked me up a new pair of ASICS gel-nimbus running sneaks. My husband and I were just talking sneakers yesterday. We're both 40 and when we were in elementary and middle school, you HAD to have Nikes. Adidas and Converse were allowed if you HAD Nikes already. I still love my Nikes and still always own 2 or 3 pairs at any given time, but I think it's mostly because they were such a big deal to me growing up. Plus, they're usually pretty stylin'! We were talking about how much we really are liking Bella's newest Nikes. They're really very well designed for a growing toddler. And we were talking about how grateful we were for our grandparents who always made sure we were rocking a pair of Nikes. Should people care about name brands so much? Probably not, but the reality of America is that they do, so why would a parent not go out of their way to make sure their kid has one less thing to get picked on in school? Now, let me talk ASICS for a minute...these are great shoes if you struggle with wide feet or need a shoe for stability. They do cost a little more, but I know a lot of runners who swear by them...I have very narrow feet, and don't have stability issues and so have had good luck with just about any shoe. The ASICS offer great styling and don't have that old man New Balance vibe...by the way, I've owned one pair of New Balance back when the grey, black, and yellow trail shoe was widely trendy...the WORST shoe ever, in my opinion, like running on hard, rigid plastic. Got rid of those ASAP. In other news, I'm switching gears to prepare for the holiday season...Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Which simply means cleaning, cleaning and cleaning. I have to go through my clothes. I have time to do it today but I don't know if my allergies are up for the task...dust makes me sneeze, and my eyes itch and makes me cough.

Round Two

I seem to be afflicted with this cold again. Not as bad as the first time around, but come on! I'm drinking a cup of coffee because I need the caffeine and then I will be drinking hot tea till this cold is gone. I so enjoyed having the day off yesterday. I like four day work weeks! Things slowly seem to be shaping up into a routine again. I fell asleep at 7 PM Sunday and slept right through until 7 the next morning, but last night I had trouble falling asleep and have been up since 4 AM. I was done work by 1 and went tanning. Now, I'm debating on putting on my pj's and calling it a day. Well this was a blah post for my blah mood.

Well happy October! We're a week in and I haven't blogged yet. Been super busy. Had a fantastic weekend in Maine with family and friends.

9/28/12

How glad are we that it's the weekend??? SO GLAD! Next week will be busy right through the weekend. I said at the beginning of this month that I wanted to get to Maine the weekend of the 6th because my husband is busy with games anyway and there are a few birds I need to kill, and if Hayley gets this new job, our schedules will be even less flexible for a bit, so this will be it to get Bella up there to visit with my parents and grandmother, unless I want to take her alone. I guess we will see how she does next weekend before I make decisions on any solitary trips with her. Shannon's birthday is coming up and she and Desaraye need some Jenn time. Did I mention how glad I am that it is the weekend??? Gosh I need some days off. I kind of wish I took some sort of non-death related vacation before starting my new job. I do get holidays and school vacations off, so that'll be a welcome break. I'm hoping to get into some kind of routine/habit of getting to Maine every 4-6 weeks or so. It'll be easier to commit to that once soccer season is over and my husband can go with me. I have a lot of catching up to do with family and so many many many friends from church and school, I doubt we will ever get bored! I also want to go skiing this winter at good old Hermon Mountain. My cold is better. I really need a back and neck massage, though. I hope my husband is feeling super lovey dovey.

9/26/12

I'm not even ashamed to admit that I'm already in my pajamas. I was up pretty much every hour last night...grrrrrrrr...totally dragging butt at 3:30 pm. Tomorrow is my long day but it should be fairly easy. Journey concert on Saturday!!!! Big smiles. And I will be enjoying the show at the Dunk (INSIDE) while some of my Maine friends will (unfortunately) be seeing the show on the cold waterfront of Bangor.

9/25/12

I'm just finishing up my first cold of the year. I really thought it was my allergies at first but it got worse and then Mitch and Bella got it. Hayley has it now. It was fast and furious which is how I prefer to get sick, if I have to get sick. Right now, my nose is feeling better. I just have a headache tonight but I think that has more to do with my period than the cold. I'm watching The New Girl. I really like this show. Zooey Deschanel is awesome! I also love Weeds. The weekend went by way too fast.

9/22/12

This weekend is going by too fast! I of course, woke up at 6 am. So much for sleeping in. I was super stuffy and had to just move around to loosen things up so I got up, made coffee, spent the morning cuddling with Bella. I took my shower, went to the grocery store and Dollar Tree with Hayley. Back home to relax, listening to One Republic on Pandora, blogging, knitting, relaxing. Date night tonight with my husband. Next Saturday is the Journey concert in Providence.

9/19/12

Weird day. Worked from home and now my work is done. I fell asleep early last night (9:30) and pretty much slept right through. Slowly catching up on all the lost sleep I've had for the last month and a half. Now, I'm going to make a run to the grocery store and come up with something yummy and healthy for dinner/dessert. Also going to get some lunch stuff for me for the rest of the week. I feel ready for the weekend! Also going to try a Dr. Oz drink with each meal...1 cup of grapefruit juice with 2T of apple cider vinegar. I also drink a cup of 100% purple grape juice every morning to ward off the stomach bug! If someone in my home comes down with a stomach bug, I will increase it to 3 times a day until the threat passes. Lots of great literature on this particular old wives' tale. I rarely get a stomach bug anyway but when I do, it is typically a food borne illness, but now that I'm working with kids again, time to be proactive on the germ front. Plus I don't want to bring anything nasty home to our little princess. Well that's my exciting update. I'm going to read, relax, cook and knit for the rest of the afternoon and gear up for my busy day (tomorrow). Also counting down until my first school holiday.

9/17/12

What a long day!!! My first "real" day at my new job! Loving the work...came home to tan and then off to North Kingstown to drop off paperwork and work a couple hours at my other job. Home again to pick up Hayley and Bella and make a run to the grocery store. Finally home, relaxing in bed, knitting and drinking tea, and going to soon listen to some Pandora. Zach just popped in for a minute. He and friends are headed to the beach and I could tell he'd been crying a bit. One of his friends killed himself. Not one of his best friends, but still someone he knew quite well. I guess he'd moved and Zach said he'd keep in touch and he really hasn't, so he's feeling a little guilty. Zach and I had a talk about a month ago in which I mentioned that after high school graduation, friends will die occasionally. Kids are on their own for the first time and make some stupid choices and Mom and Dad aren't right there to keep an eye on things. And the older you get, the more mates you lose. He was still in "invincible" mode when we had that talk and kind of brushed me off. Tonight, things have changed a bit for him. All a part of growing up, I know, but it's still hard seeing your man-child sad. Other than being tired, I had a great weekend. Watched Weeds for two days straight on Netflix. Can't wait for Friday again for another enjoyable weekend! And now, it is 7:37 and I'm going to retire for the evening.

Sunday, September 16, 2012

9/16/12

I didn't do much of anything yesterday and I loved every minute of it! I had a Weeds marathon and I worked on my knitting and that was about it. This morning though, I've already cleaned the shower. Dishes are done. Kitchen is getting cleaned. Drinking my first cup of coffee. Once the fumes thin out if the bathroom a little, I will go back in and clean the sink and toilet, sweep and mop the floor. A clean and orderly bathroom will help me get off to work on the right foot. I don't have to be to work till 9. Yahoo! We had a fun night Friday night. Dinner at El Tapatio. My favorite. I think I had the best strawberry pina colada ever! Home to watch a couple of episodes of Sons of Anarchy. So today, I'm just cleaning. More relaxing. Gearing up for another busy week. Some tanning later this afternoon.

9/14/12

I am blogging on my laptop and not my iPad. It has it's advantages, like for instance, Blogger seems to work better on my laptop instead of my iPad. However, there are a few disadvantages, such as: I've maybe used my laptop to blog maybe maybe MAYBE 5 times in two years, so things are a bit unfamiliar. Also, my iPad has auto-correct and auto-fill-in and automatically capitalizes words after you end a sentence, and also automatically does the correct punctuation. While my iPad is convenient for just about everything under the sun, I do need to use my MacBook more for work now, so I need to get back in the habit of turning it on. Things are finally coming together after an incredibly stressful month and a half or so. Things went from perfect to chaos the moment I opened my eyes on my birthday. The only good thing about August were the big paychecks...and me applying for and getting the greatest job ever! How awesome is it that it is the weekend? It is date night tonight too, but oh my gosh, I have been up since 4 this morning, and I'm not feeling motivated to look for anything to wear. I'm playing with the idea of going tanning, but again, no motivation. El Tapatio sounds good tonight for dinner and maybe a margarita. I am sleeping IN tomorrow. I can't even begin to describe how happy that makes me right now! Going to see Journey again on the 29th at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. Floor seats! :) Janice and I went last August at the Comcast Center and we decided we wanted to go again.

Happy Anniversary

My husband is full of surprises! I wish I was as good at gift giving as I am at gift receiving!! Awesome concert tickets for me and a friend! Floor seats even! And the Dooney & Bourke Smith bag I've been coveting! In chestnut. It's perfect. Hand written love notes on mirrors. A sweet card and a bouquet of flowers. And to think I was going to buy him sneakers and take him underwear shopping! :) I truly do have the most amazingly wonderful man ever.

9/11/12

My new job has gotten off to a great start! I'm really enjoying meeting everyone. It feels so wonderful to have a smile on my face. It is also super great to have my husband home. So that's pretty much it in a nutshell. I'm busy but I'm happy. God is fabulous. And next week I get two paychecks! ;)

9/9/12

I had a great weekend!!! We watched some movies...Wanderlust, The Lorax, and Salmon Fishing on the Yemen. I didn't actually sleep in like I envisioned, but I still got in some restful relaxation. Hayley and I went through my clothes. I dropped a big bag off to the drop box. Next weekend, we will go through it again so I can sort my jeans into three piles...keep, donate or alter. I also need to pick up more hangers as my husband continues to lift mine. I have to say, I'm feeling better already. De-cluttering really cuts down on additional unwanted stress. If the humidity drops and stays dropped, I'm hoping to get some painting done around here to perk things up. I also need to clean the shower next weekend. I'm so excited for my new job to start tomorrow!! I got my nails done! I've taken a long break from doing them, but I was in the mood for it yesterday. I went back to my old place. It was nice to see familiar faces. Lily is literally due to have her baby next week! I'm also tentatively planning a quick one day run up to see my father October 6th. I'm not sure when he's going to be in his new place. It'll probably be an up Saturday, leave early Sunday morning kind of thing, maybe take him to dinner and find out what his plans are. It'll be good to get away for a night and maybe I can just rent a small car. I hate putting miles on my own. We'll see what my husband thinks about all that, as he will have to hold down the fort till my return. I'm really enjoying my knitting project. I'm also excited to start my next one. I've learned to cable knit. Go me. I am also enjoying 1Q84. I'm happy that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter! Probably a few more weeks till I can take a deep breath, but it's coming!

9/6/12

I had a rough night last night. Thankfully my husband was on hand to take my mind off of all my anxiety-ridden thoughts. I'm a little tired this morning but I'm feeling more clear headed I guess. I can't control how other people react to things. I need to learn to let A LOT of stuff go. I'm going to control what I can, and that is MY behavior. I'm also going to take each moment as it comes and try not to worry too far in advance and as long as my priorities are set, the stumbling blocks people are trying to throw in my way are only stumbling blocks if I let them be just that. This has been a long journey and there's finally a light at the end of a long dark dreary tunnel. I choose happiness. I choose positivity, creativity, humility. I choose to be gracious and kind to those who've shown me graciousness and kindness. The others will just get my prayers. And this is a minute by minute struggle at times for me because what I'd like to give is a punch in the face, a whole hand of middle fingers, and my ass to kiss as I'm strutting off into the sunset and it is ONLY God's power working on me that is preventing that behavior. Anybody who knows me, knows I'm not gracious and kind when people hurt, threaten, or manipulate me, my husband or my children. Forgiveness does not come easy for me. And I promise you, praying for people I do not like can only be an act of God.

Better

Feeling better finally! Headache seemed to go away on its own. Or maybe it was the second cup of coffee. My tanning salon is finally back to normal operating hours again. All is right with the world. I'm wearing jeans today! I get bored when I have to wear the same clothes...shorts, tank tops and flip flops...all day, every day. So I bought some really cool Sharpie brand colored fine point pens that don't bleed for our master calendar. Kayla picked up the calendar at work. I have the next three weeks sketched out and I'm listening to some Pandora. I also feel better now after some communication with my husband. Preseason always throws us for a loop and that gets September off on the wrong foot. Typically, once we get adjusted and back on track, the season's over anyway. Some years are harder than others. The first year was the worst for me, but this one has seemingly taken the silver medal. Anyway, tonight we're having chicken taco salad, then I'm off to do an overnight.

9/4/12

I'm not feeling so great today. Headache. I did take a hot shower and got myself ready. Sometimes just making that effort helps. I usually end up feeling worse if I just stay in pajamas and in bed all day, not that I didn't want to.I'm going to attempt to go through my closet today and make some outfits that will get me through the next few weeks and so I can take stock of the staples I have and what I need. My sweater/cardigan collection is in excellent standing and I think I will be thanking myself once the cooler weather hits, as I will be in my car a lot again and there are few things worse than driving in a coat. Maybe standing in a long checkout line at Christmas in an overly heated mall might make the top of my list...being stuck in wet jeans is somewhere in the mix too! Sand in my sneakers. I could go on. It's a very muggy 75 out there right now. I don't want to do anything actually. I'd like to sleep. I would have liked to have gotten to sleep last night at a reasonable hour and maybe have stayed asleep past 7 this morning.

Happy Labor Day

I don't quite understand this particular holiday...seems to me that the people this holiday was created for all have to work today, while the rest of us eat, drink and think back on all of the summertime adventures and gear up for the start of school and shop all the summer clearance sales. I'm making mini chicken pot pies for dinner tonight. Homemade chicken salad for lunch. I cooked up all the chicken and reserved a portion for my chicken salad. A little mayo, chopped onion, celery amd nuts, with cranberries mixed in, on a low carb wrap. Super yummy. We are also having our low cal-low fat pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. No fire tonight. So sad about that. Mitch, Zach and Kayla won't be home till after 10:30. This will be another 57 hour work week. This is like week 3 or 4 of those types of hours. Next week, I start my new job! So excited to begin a new journey! Next week will be like 64 hours between the two!

Happy Happy September

Lazy is the word of the day for me. I haven't been sleeping the greatest for the last few weeks, and when I get a day to sleep in, my brain doesn't let me! I'm hoping for some good cool nights for sleeping and I'm also looking forward to the time change. The only good thing about the spring time change is that it means those endless summer night's are coming! But I love love love the fall time change. I love the extra hour of sleep, I love the early darkness. Why? Because it's dark at 5 and you're still doing stuff...in the summer, it's after 8 before darkness falls and I'm ready for bed...hard not to feel sloth like, so in the fall, by the time 9 rolls around, it's been dark for awhile and I feel zero guilt going to bed early. Anyway, today I'm feeling lazy. It's already 11. I did make breakfast for everyone. And braved the grocery store for coffee and tampons. That should be enough info on the kind of morning I'm having. Yesterday, I did something I haven't done in awhile...got an actual book from the library!!! My kindle is loaded. I have probably a hundred actual owned books in my home that I've yet to read, so I don't have an urgent need to get to the library often, but I was there yesterday and a book that I've been wanting to purchase on my kindle was available, so I picked it up. Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. Super excited to waste the next three days reading this and being LAZY!

I'm looking forward to the moments I will have this weekend to relax. It's gonna be a hot one today! 90s and muggy. I guess the dry air was just a tease...back to summer for the weekend. I am working on a lovely knitting project...lovely because the pattern is one that you don't have to spend every minute counting or paying attention to where you are, so you can actually get some good meditative therapy going. I'm also looking forward to getting some reading done. I'm going to try and get my errands done today and get the meals for the weekend planned, so I'm not wasting time at the store. I'm thinking lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, low carb wraps, diffent dips and assorted dippers, cheese and crackers and pepperoni/salami. Some healthy(ier) desserts, like the mini apple pies I'm going to give a whirl. Also a nice protein packed breakfast/brunch on one of the days...I have a new recipe for eggs that I want to try and that I can prepare in advance. I'm going to pick up Glee season 3 and maybe The Walking Dead season 1 and have a marathon of some sort if it proves to be too muggy this weekend. I guess it's about time to get the AC on. It was nice having the windows open for a couple of days. It finally started to smell like summertime in here, instead of AC air. I need to do a major closet revamp but my allergies are already giving me trouble, so dusty clothes are not something I want to mess with right now. There seems to be some good sales going on, but eh, I'm not interested in sale items that will be on clearance in a week. A couple of weeks ago, I bought Bella four name brand bathing suits for next summer AND didn't pay more than $4 a piece for any of them...so that's an example of my kind of sale...and she won't be forced to wear a poorly made Target or Walmart suit. We have a chlorinated pool and live on the ocean, so the kid needed some suits that would hold up to those elements and constant usage. In other news, we're getting a new camper I think. We're looking anyway. We will probably try to sell our current one because I don't know anyone personally who has more than one camper, unless they own a trailer park! Both the van and Tahoe have hitches, so we're still good. We will be making our last payment on my Town & Country in January or so...three years went by very quickly! I will be keeping it because the extra room comes in handy, and will soon be in the market for an extended cab truck or a Jeep Wrangler or maybe a car...I found a Lexus a few months ago that was dealer owned and going for way under the market value, but alas I wasn't shopping yet. Isn't that always the way? For instance, we found a 2008 Porsche going for $40,000 at my future BMW dealer and i think we certainly fantasized briefly about the two of us driving it off into the sunset...

8/30/12

Almost time to say goodbye to August! I'm so ready for an exciting fall! I'm planning on a few more beach days of course! For those of us in Narragansett, we LOVE September and love our empty beaches and empty roads. Good riddance to nasty summer people. Zach got a new job! It's really good news for him. Kayla will be working full time, going to college, and being a Mommy, so she will be busy. I will be quite busy with work, and this is Mitch's busy time of the year. Hayley will still be job searching and helping with Bella. Potty training starts! Bella is SO excited about her new undies. She's had her potty chair for quite awhile now, and uses it before getting into the bath tub, she also uses the big toilet, which I think she prefers, but it's been intermittent as we haven't started the actual potty training yet. I consider myself an expert on the subject now, after raising two girls and a boy (jk), so we feel confident that Bella will be a breeze. She is 2 years and 4 months. So anyway, with so much going on, I'm going to create a master schedule so I have an idea headcount-wise when I'm actually making dinner, when we are all fending for ourselves, etc. The kids do a good job keeping me company during soccer season, or I'd be a complete depressed mess. So my bucket list for fall is: getting in a few more beach days, hiking, visiting Letchworth State Park, spending a beautiful fall day in Central Park (and I hope we can all go), go on some ghost hunts in haunted New England style, apple picking with Bella, getting to some scary movies, maybe go with Zach to Factory of Terror (this one's a BIG maybe and only if my husband goes with me...maybe we will visit Lizzie Borden's Bed and Breakfast while we're in town), spend a day in Salem, MA before the crazies get there for Halloween season, another trip to Macy's Day parade, but that one may be put off yet again for another year...all in all, I think this is a GREAT bucket list for Fall 2012!

8/28/12

Soooooooo, big announcement day, as promised. I begin my new job on the 10th! Super excited! I spoke with my current boss this morning and will stay here too! Everything is falling into place and I really feel like this is what I need to be doing. That doesn't mean I'm not going to relocate if a job takes my husband to a different area, but as long as we stay here, this is the next step I need to take. And really, how many times does the opportunity of having TWO great paying jobs that won't interfere with each other happen??? It's going to be a crazy few weeks till this becomes my new normal, but I'm always up for a challenge!!

8/26/12

I did nothing today! Ok, I played with Bella. Finally sat outside in the sun for about 2 hours this afternoon and worked on one of my knitting projects. I spent a blessed few moments with my husband. I really needed to see him. Pre-season is hard for us but it's over this week!!! Then it's just the regular soccer season, but at least he's home more often than never, which is the case with preseason. I made petit lasagnas...oh my goodness, so good! I took the kids to Beavertail Friday night for a sunset picnic since my husband was out of town for the night. The only way it would have been better would have been if he had been with us. We had a bonfire three night's last week. All in all, as bad as last week was in parts, it was perfect in others. I needed the few days off that I had and I really liked the sleeping part. Taking a deep breath and jumping back in tomorrow. I'm going to work some more on my knitting and then off the dreamland. Busy busy day tomorrow!

8/24/12

Last night was incredibly nice. We had a fire going and we had the perfect amount of wood. By the time it burned down, we were all ready for bed anyway. An owl was hooting away like crazy and the stars were all out and the frogs were deafening at times. You could definitely feel just a hint of fall in the air, but because we are right on the ocean, the humidity keeps things warmer than the conditions would be otherwise. Maybe we will go to Beavertail for a picnic supper tonight to watch the sun go down and so I can get some pics of Bella there. I don't think we've taken her there since she was a baby. As much as I hate August, I do love the last few days of it.

8/23/12

My next paycheck, the one with the pay period on the first, will be 101 hours!!! I think this is a new record for me. 21 of those hours are all overtime pay. Life is never dull for long for me. I'm so excited about my big announcement. Step two will be on Monday and then after a discussion on Tuesday, I should be prepared to make my news public.

8/22/12

Big announcements, big changes, big decisions. Soon, I promise. For now, I'm trying to get through today. Tomorrow will be exciting, overwhelming and a bit anxiety ridden. The next two weeks will probably be similar. I feel like this will be a good thing and I read a quote today that really spoke to me. It's not the future you're afraid of. It's repeating the past that makes you anxious. So I'm going to keep on keeping on and what happens, will happen, whether I worry myself silly or not. A part of me just wishes I could fast forward through these next few weeks though.

I Think...

...today is the 13th and I think today is a Monday. Last week was a blur and the previous week was spent away from home. In the 8 years that I've blogged, I typically hate August. It is just a depressing month for me and it's also typically anxiety ridden. It is also the month where I barely see my husband. I love September through December and also love April through July. I hate feeling mopey. I hate this super yucky humidity. I hate getting headaches every time I step outside. Why I am not in Phoenix I do not know. Let's move on to more positive things...The Hunger Games is coming out! And Glee Season 3 is available on Tuesday. And I've finally learned a pesky stitch in my knitting. I kept inadvertently adding stitches and finally sat down to figure out what I was doing wrong. I was simply wrapping the yarn over instead of behind. So hopefully my project has been frogged for the LAST time! The pool chemicals have been adjusted and now I hope the rain stays away so we can enjoy it. I treated it last week and then the pool stayed covered the whole time because of threatening storms. Speaking of which, I think we only had one day in which it actually did rain, but oh my God, for the few hours it did, it came down in buckets. The girls and I were trying to make it home and at one point, I drove through probably 10 or more inches of rain. Rhode Island doesn't believe in proper road drainage, I guess. I was expecting my car to die or not start the next day, but luckily things were fine. And it's Shark Week!!! I watched it all last night and will hopefully catch some more Tuesday night.

8/7/12

Hard to believe we left for Maine a week ago tomorrow. We accomplished a ton in the short time we were there. Most importantly, my family got to see how stinking cute Bella is! They haven't seen her since she was a baby. She loved playing with my nieces. I am glad to be home though. Visiting family isn't a relaxing vacation, even under the best circumstances, and these were certainly not good circumstances, unlike say, spending the week in the Caribbean. Did I mention I'm glad to be home??? My dog can go unleashed in her own yard, I have excellent water pressure and all the hot water I want. It was nice having more eyes on Bella, with lots of tattletale cousins to report on all her activities, so that was a nice break for those of us who watch her daily. The older I become, the more I don't eat, digest or sleep well when I'm away from home for long and that can get me downright grouchy. It certainly isn't for lack of trying on family's part. The accommodations were lovely, and I'm grateful. As soon as Bella came home, she ran right for her toy box and her books. I'm glad Zach was able to spend a good amount of time with my brother and step-father. All the kids went to the Bangor State Fair. Maybe now they will shut up about it! All I've heard since we've moved to RI 5 years ago is how much they miss the fair every summer. Yes, RI has fairs and festivals, and yes, Rhode Islanders think these fairs are big. By Maine standards, they would be called carnivals. The kids want the Big E proportions, Fryeburg Fair proportions, Bangor State Fair proportions. So they got their fair. Kayla didn't enjoy herself as much as usual, because she and I didn't go together. We have a system so we can see and do everything and so it was nice to know I was missed for something anyway. The only thing I didn't do was relax in the Ornamental Gardens like I like to do in the summer. In case anyone is wondering, Bar Harbor traffic in the height of summer is NOTHING. There just aren't enough words to describe the traffic on 108 during beach season. And our little neighborhood called Brigg's Farm is right off of 108. We are so remote from the main drag that we ignorantly live in bliss until we have to make a run to the grocery store or run a "quick" errand and return three hours later pissed off at the world. Knowing all the shortcuts and avoiding 108 at all costs helps, that's for sure. 4 MORE weeks and the roads and beaches are ours again! Not that I'm counting down or anything!
